Powder coating.

Anyone here into powder coating? I’m just getting into it and was wondering if anyone here has done it and has any useful tips for me as I start my facinating journy of putting color onto metals. I’m setting up my workshop in my garage.

Gonna start small for now. Maybe later I’ll get a bigger oven so I can do ATV/motorcycle frames and such. I’ve done quite a bit of research on the net and it dosent seem too hard. Should be intresting to see my results.

Anywho…if anyone here has done it, post up.

I believe our host AJ has played around with it…

I can’t believe I missed this.

If you still need any help.. shoot me a PM.

how did you mask off the lettering?

On polished / sanded lettering.. I simply sand it down AFTER it has been power coated.

Other methods would require masking off the letters very painstakingly with high temperature tape.

Wow… this really makes me want to powdercoat my jeep’s wheels. I simply spayed and clear coated them, they haven’t chipped yet but brake dust has gotten into some of the bumps and made them look less-than-shiny.

I can do them in a very high gloss red.

(Kind of a bad picture).

GUH! jaw droppage… like crazy

Edit: $60 per wheel, eh? What sort of shop do you need to powder coat stuff (including oven)? It might be cheaper for me to fly you out here for a weekend than to ship the wheels to you, lol!
