i started building my first proton pack 3 days ago out of scrap wood, metal and plastic parts. using norm and sean’s plans, i spent three short afternoons in between rainy day downpours cutting and drilling to finish it in time for a friend’s birthday costume party this weekend.

despite the typhoon, i went on to priming the pack this morning, droplets of water got under the paint and when i wiped it off, they gave the smooth parts of the wood a slightly metallic texture. i hope it will look good when i start painting it black.

here are photos of the pack after a few coats of primer, the rough texture is a result of water droplets in between coats. if i didnt need to finish the pack for this weekend i would have sanded it smooth before painting and in between coats.

i’ll spray on the black tomorrow.

with the brief appearance of the sun this morning i was able to get a few coats of black paint on my proton pack

no, she was going as Jayne from Firefly.

i did get lots of inquiries about the Proton Pack, some friends now want me to help them make their own in time for Halloween. looks like we’ll have the whole GB team by then
