Proton Pack Bumper Template

There was a lot of great feedback about the MDF bumper we built, and we have already gotten a couple of people interested in the template.

So, to help make building your pack a little easier, I give you the Proton Pack Bumper template

Follow the link below and scroll to the bottom of the page. The Slime Blower Cone template is also on this page.

Instructions for printing are on the site as well. Note that the templates require 11x17 paper.

Thanks much for the template! I’m considering redoing our bumpers to be a bit more accurate, and if I do, I’ll be using this for sure!

No problem, glad someone got some use out of it, wasnt sure with no responses.

Actually I was kinda shocked there weren’t any responses to this when I replied. I snagged them the day you posted this, but didn’t have the time to reply until earlier today.

Someone was even in chat looking for templates, and didn’t realize this thread was even here. Odds are, all the focus right now is on the new games, and then new toy announcements.

yeah pretty much

Is this thread a spinoff of another wip thread on you making the mdf bumpers? if so, maybe the mods could merge them, or you could post the link here as well?

Cool, just saw this today. I might try this for my bumper.

Is that 1/8" MDF? If so, where did you get it? I’ve never seen it at a hardware store before, just 1/8" hardboard.

Also, and this is nitpicking, some of the text is pretty hard to read when you zoom in.

Otherwise, great work.

No, someone asked for the template, so it was easier to just post the link separately

Ah… wasn’t sure if I missed a wip somewhere. I’ve learned a lot following other people’s work methods

I think the template’s pretty cool too. I made my bumper using almost the exact same method. The only difference being for the curved side I cut up a bit of PVC tubing and bondo’d it into place. The rest is made of MDF. I also used bondo to smooth the joins and curves, that’s why it looks pink in the photo.

These templates are fantastic! I’m currently building a bumper using your templates. So far, so good. I just have to fill in some gaps, polish it up a bit. I just have a jig saw and a box cutter, so it’s a little difficult to cut the exact same shapes over and over. I’m very happy with the way it’s turning out so far.

Thanks!

i was away for a few days and missed this on the first go round. awesome to have this template. between this and KCGhostbuster’s excellent tutorial there should be no trouble at all with making bumpers!

Yep.. I followed KC’s method, but with incorrect bumper shapes. I’m considering dredoing them to be more accurate.

When attaching the bumper, do you set it flush with the cyclotron?

Thanks,

DL2

No, there’s space between it and the cyclotron. I’m not sure how much precisely. I was going to look at where the bottom of the bumper is on the side of it to figure that out once I assemble my pack.

Awesome! Wasn’t looking forward to doing this part of the build, I was thinking I would have to buy one. But now I can’t wait to get started on it! Thanks

This is the second time I am using this template. I can NOT thank you guys enough. First time worked out well, on my 1st scratch build., Keep in mind I made it out of MDF board, plastic rulers, a little basswood and tons of wood glue. BUT, it has held up to over a years worth of 100+ degree weather, kids hanging stuff off of it, general shipping of my pack and the occasional bump (walls, people and tall dogs). I wanted to use it again. Thank you.

I feel like such a late-comer! This is the second or third time, over the last month, that I have tried to follow a link posted to a thread for another website that doesn’t work. Either the site is shut down, no longer exists, or the file has been removed! Does anyone have this bumper template file that they could post with a current link or send it via email? Thanks! On a side not, I would also love to have the most recent CAD files for the Pepakura build…

We are working on getting the website back up soon, we had to switch providers…or something technical like that lol.

Could you post the template somewhere temporarily? I use google documents e.g.:

You can delete the document at a later date when your website is back up.
