Newbie here with a very limited budget. I have been looking at the proton pack shells and have come to the realization that I cannot afford a fiberglass shell. Any suggestions for a relatively accurate, but relatively inexpensive shell? This will be my first build. Thank you all for your time and help. Thanks!
Phil,
Thanks. I saw that one, but I wanted to see what others thought about it. Anybody had any decent results with the Studio Creations Shell? Thanks, man.
Iv had great results with the studio creations shell
Yep, there’s a couple of really good builds on the boards with the SC shell…
Studio creations does make a great shell. This is my pack. Check out my thread if you need a guide,
Check the SC build in my signature.
Thanks for all the help. I really appreciate it.
Alan and Sycko,
Both of the builds look terrific. Thanks for the info and the response.
I’m looking to build my first pack too. I have been looking at fibreglass shells but also on a tight budget.
Have considered scratch building my own.
How rigid are the SC shells?
I used a D-42 vacformed shell and I assume it’s similar to the SC shell. It’s likely a bit thin but you can easily reinforce it with fiberglass.
I agree, once you add some fiberglass you have a shell that’s as sturdy as any other.
Would the outside need a coat of resin or would u suggest just prime and paint it?
I didn’t bother adding fiber glass to my studio creations shell. I found it to be very sturdy on it’s own.
I agree with nicopelli. If your adventurous, you CAN do fiberglass… But its really not necessary. I found it to be quite rigid. Other than some softer spot in place that REALLY won’t get any damage like deep corners. And when it came to mounting part, I found the shell itself wad rigid enough to hold the majority of them, with the exception for the gun mount, injectors, and such. I plan on doing another sc shell build because it is really user friendly, no tapping holes, easy to cut if needed. takes a little more work than a glass shell, only because of slight webbing of the plastic in some deep spots, and rounded edges which can easily be addressed in the paint stage. But hey thats all in the fun of building a pack.
No, just the inside.
Brilliant. I’ll order myself one after christmas as right now I’m rather poor ![]()
Will give me another couple of months research time
What are the tubes below the PPD and to the left of the clippard relay? I’m trying to track them down but can’t find them.
