the sparks on the muzzle are not necessary IMHO. If it was me I would remove the sparks and add a strobe-like white light (powerful) and I would enhance the light effect on the stream itself.
One thing people never think of when doing this tests is to add an off camera light (used by an operator) that will light the front of the Ghostbuster as soon as the stream is activated and turned off when the stream is deactivated. That would create the effect of the Neutrona Wand’s Cannon illuminating the GB as he fires. (Shake the lightsource a tad but don’ over do it)
A nice extra would be an air blower throwing wind against the GB as the guys in the movie had their hair moving and all when they fired.
