I remember using neon pipe cleaners when I was little. The plastic ones always broke. They looked a lot cooler too!
I always thought it would be cool if they did something like the clear force lightning they do for some of the Star Wars toys, or even the lightning on Gozer’s finger tips from NECA. If anyone has some of that laying around, I know the Star Wars one’s we’re normally removable.
You could probably do it using hot glue and a mold. Then you could use translucent model paints for color. They would be similar to the Mini mate streams I’d imagine.
i thought about finding some translucent plastic rod and heating it up so I could bend it into shape. Then I would make a ball at the end for the flicker tip glow and bore a hole in it so it fits on the proton gun tip. If I come up with something I will let you guys know.
I wouldn’t know how to go about dying them, but I think the clear plastic covered twist ties used in a lot of toy packaging would be good. Dye them translucent yellow blue red, whatever, twist em up and use hot glue to glue one end together and mabey mold to the gun tip.
they make different colored twist ties. I found the perfect thing. Walmart sells these little boxes with plastic pins in it. You put it on your hand or face or whatever and the pins fall around your hand and makes a…replica of your hand outa the pins. I dunno what they are called but they have ones with plastic orange pins. You would have to glue several ornge ones together for the main stream but its the best i could find. Then I would get an emperor palpatine figure with force lightning and cut that down for the lightning. Then make a ball on the end out of something and put a small hole in it to attacht it to the wand. The needle boxes are only 5 bucks so i am gonna go for this as soon as i can.
Hi guys, I’ve tried to made some streams out of colored pipe cleaners.
I’m thinking of putting the yellow/orange colored straw in to a small tube and putting the blue sparkled one around it but with only a few pieces of blue straw instead of entwining it. This is what I have for now.

I was going to put this in the thread I mentioned in the previous post, but there is too much going on at that one.
So, here he is, 6" Ray bustin Slimer.
The stream is made of 2 parts, both are acrylic rod. The main stream is 1/16" red transparent rod 20" long (item code FARR-2). The blue “spark” is .040 blue fiber optic rod (item code FFOB-40) two pieces were used. You can purchase these items here:

The rods were bent by heating them over the cooking element of a Mattel Vac-U-Form. Any other electrical heating element should work. I would not use an open flame to do the bending as it would not afford you as much control over the bending and could blacken the acrylic or set it on fire which is always fun. I drilled small holes in the red rod and glued the blue sparks into it using super glue. If I make another one I will give the red rod some curve before I start to put it together and the blue spark more spiral, then it will resemble the streams in the film.
This stream took me about 3 hours to make, I will not be selling these, but if you want any other information about them, send me a pm with your questions and I will answer them.
Impressive. I think the next time step might be to try to introduce a wave form to the main beam. Looks great.
Here are some pics of the proton streams I fabricated (sorry for the low res, this was taken on my iphone). Taking CaptCyan’s (and someone at the matty forums) advice, I found 1/8th red acrylic rods at my local hobby store (you can also buy them at hobbylinc). For the blue electricity effect, I used some old lightning bolts from an Emperor Palptine figure. I used a zippo lighter to heat the rod, and bend it slowly to get the desired curves. Then I used krazy glue to attach the lighting to the rod. All and all it’s a very easy process with great results. A tip would be to keep the flame far away from the rod, otherwise it will start to blacken, it’s really a matter of trial and error.
