For those people who are using a pack shell and connecting it to a wooden motherboard: How thick of a wood did you buy for the motherboard? I tried searching the forum, but I didn’t find the answer I was looking for. Can anyone help? Thanks!
If going with wood you need 1/4" for strength, if Aluminum 1/8". Best to get 1/4" hardboard or MDF (medium density fiberboard) if you can’t find the hardboard.
Hardboard is the stuff they make pegboard out of except without the holes. Good Luck 
You think that would be better than plywood?
Way better. MDF has a nice smooth finish that take paint really well. With the proper wethering, it can fool the eys into thinking it’s metal!
Just wear a mask when cutting it. It’s nasty stuff to breath in!

I actually have a synthetic type of wood, luan, and my motherboard’s only 1/8" thick, and plenty strong enough, even though I’ve punched a bunch of extra holes on it while fitting the new alice frame.
Plywood is too rough and hard to get rid of the woodgrain look without covering it with bondo etc. Luan as mentioned by Ecto is a type of plywood.

Definition: A low-quality 1/8? plywood used in dollhouse and roombox kits. Because many of the kits are created using a procedure that stamps out the pieces using dies, it is often referred to as die-cut plywood.

Did so, I can see it! lol. It’s true you can see the woodgrain on my motherboard, even though I smothered it in primer before paint, ah well. It works for me, and is cheaper than buying an aluminum frame.
Blah… Luan is one of the easiest woods to remove grain from… Someday I really need to do an online tutorial on the miracles of that almost 2000 year old finish commonly called Shellac…
3 heavy brushed coats with sanding between them and in less then an hour or two of work most of the grain will be gone, if not all…
MDF is easier to finish in the grain respect as it has none but it’s a huge mess to cut… And Shellace also works wonders on it…
