"Who Should They Cast?" (a fan wishlist)

If I were making this kind of movie…I would definitely lurk the internet (eg: fan sites) for demographic-pleasing suggestions. So since this is the Ghostbusters Fans hangout, why not post some wishlists of Who We’d Like to See in Classic Taupe-and-Red (Should They Be Forming a Younger Ensemble) .. you know .. in case they actually do go the torch-passing route?

I perused a board the other day where a lot of people were talking about the bunch of “funny young guys these days” who are everywhere…Seth Rogan/Michael Cera/Jonah Hill/etc. etc. .. honestly, made me cringe. (Not to say they’re not alright guys, but juuuust don’t seem quite right to me for this particular opportunity…)

I think if they were to go in the direction of a “newschool” crew of Ghostbusters, they’d have to cast less “everywhere” (but still recognizable…in that way where you realize “ah–I forgot about him…I like that guy! I’m glad they put him in a new movie!”) actors…ones we won’t be trying to convince ourselves are actually in a Ghostbusters movie through the first 45 minutes. And ones who won’t feel as painfully sequel-ish (aka: young) (let’s face it, Michael Cera’s a gem, but can you see him as part of the original team in its day?). And they should STEER CLEAR, for the love of everything ever, of casting anyone they’d be tempted to feature in an ironic sweatband or pair of pants on a poster designed to draw in unwitting 13 year olds who will spend the whole movie texting about how they have no idea what’s going on and why there aren’t more f-bombs and ■■■■■ ('cause they haven’t even heard of the first 2 movies and think Bill Murray is one of their grandpa’s pals down at the Elks). In any case, they should definitely be guys who can deliver the classic humor & dynamic we’ll all be expecting, and who’re able to pull off that sarcastic-scientists-turned-badass-nuclear-nerds mystique

My list of potentially acceptable options includes:

Jorma Taccone (maybe as Dana’s son, Oscar? this kid is “funny nerd.”)

Bill Hader (this guy needs a less-sidekick/cameo-more-main-character role, 'cause he’s gold!)

Justin Bartha (the ultimate underrated nerdy underdog everyone would want to see step up & bust some ghost by the end of the movie)

Leonardo Nam (definite smartass geek supernova waiting to happen in my opinion)

Ben Foster (another relatively underrated diamond in the rough…I haven’t seen him in a non-serious role in ages, but I think he could give us an unexpected dead-on Egon-esque performance…and I’ve been dying to see him in bigger roles 'cause I think he’s ridiculously brilliant!)

Some other options that could be alright depending on the context/cast:

Jay Baruchel

Jesse Eisenberg

Seann William Scott

Jim Parsons

Simon Helberg (definitely plausible as Louis & Janine’s lovechild! hahah)

What do you think!?

I like your choices of Jorma, Hader, and Sean William Scott, but I seriously don’t know anyone else on your list. But those are definitely good choices lol.

John Krasinski (Jim from ‘The Office’) is my one choice to fit somewhere in this movie. He’s got the classic deadpan kind of humor down, and there’s the obvious connection between him and the writers.

Oh good ol’ Jim-from-The-Office…yeah, I think he could be another fun choice, especially with the writers having a good grasp on what sort of material complements his deliciously wry delivery.

And also: anything to eclipse the image in my mind of him costarring in a film with Mandy Moore!!

Hmm…I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing Rainn Wilson in there somehow…but I’m not sure I’d be up for both of them…might be too Office-y. They’d have to flip a coin and only pick one, I guess.

I love Jay Baruchel’s acting. (Jay from “Knocked Up” and he was in “Tropic Thunder”) It’s like an ordinary guy pulled from the streets, handed a script, and somehow he pulls it off, leaving you laughing and wondering why he isn’t seen more.

Hmmm, I like all those choices alot. I had to google a couple as I didn’t recognize their names, but whe I saw them, I was quickly saying “Oh, it’s the guy from Cursed, and Angel from X-Men, and the guy from National Treasure!”

I definitely think the new team should be college aged. I think if the original team steps down, it should be a bit more natural of a move rather than “quitting cause they’re old”. I’d like to see them back off from doing the grunt work and take on more CEO like positions to help run GB as a growing company. That way it’s not so much that they are saying “take this pack, it’s too heavy now.”, they just need someone to operate from the NY outpost. It’s a logical next step, and nowhere near as uncerimonious as hot young actors in GB cause no one wants old guys.

I actually wrote out a whole GB3 premise one time. It was catchy. I could never pick out actors that would be good though. These, however, I can see in it.

Christopher Titus, Zack Ward, and David Shatraw.

I am a huge Titus fan and loved his show on Fox. The three of them had a great chemistry together though they may be a bit too slapstick for a GB movie.

I want to see Laurence Olivier, Heath Ledger, and Richard Burbage. :walterpeck:

John Malkovich in some way shape or form.

That would be very cool indeed. I was also thinking of Christopher Walken - absolutely brilliant when it comes to subtle comedy!

I got a fever…and the only cure…is more Ghostbustahs!

Yah, I just think Malkovich could pull deadpan techno babble off really well.

John Malkovich as the new baddie would be a good fit.

Last summer Walken was rumored to be approached for the project…

Christina Ricci or Thora Birch for the role of “Kylie”

Makai Pheipher for the role of Roland Jackson

Heath Ledger (RIP) for the role of Eduardo Rivera

Garrett Miller?

Oscar Barrett? Hank or Will Duetchendorf

Hey Slimer! I actually agree with ya on casting focusing on casting for the extreme team of ghostbusters , Although i know its in vain because the Extreme Ghostbusters wasn’t actually a “hit”

However…i think a female ghostbuster would provide a new and interesting dynamic and someone like Chrisitina Ricci , who has that sassy witty yet vulnerable persona would be PERFECT for the role of Kylie , IF they wanted to inclue her in the first place.

Makai Pheipher is not a good pick for Roland…remember Roland was voiced by Carlton from Fresh Prince…Roland needs to be played by someone less intimidating

Ok i love Heath Ledger too but dont u think its prudent to cast in an upcoming movie? Lol and i dont even think its a good role for him…u need someone whose not a star

and as for the others… yea i dont have any ideas lol

Ever since Superbad, Bill Hader has been my dream next gen Ghostbuster. I don’t care who else they get…I just really want him.

I agree 200%! Bill Hader is one of the funniest newer actors I’ve seen!

I agree on John Krasinski and Bill Hader myself. Something about John that just seems right to me and I have no idea what it is.

i just want to say i dont want to see “The Rock” in it…
