I’ve wanted to do one of these for ages. Not sure if it’s been done before so here goes…
I’ve been looking on ebay for a while to find a cheap doner kenner ecto 1.
Nothing mint. I wouldn’t want to ruin a good one. Just a cheap one near the scrap heap.
Finally got one for £3 odd.
Then dug my old Mardave rc car out the loft. They were nearly spot on size wise.
The only problem was the rear axel was a little too wide. I really didn’t want to chop the back arches but in the end it was the only way. I do plan to box them back in when its time to spray her with some plastic I have laying around.
So far I’ve just done the first test fit after chopping the arches.
I have seen that clip on youtube before but didn’t know it was an rc ecto. looked like a static model with a few moving parts and I’m sure it had lights too.
Cool link though, thanks. I liked the low rider ecto 8)
I’ve been working on my RC Ecto 1 today.
Sprayed all the wheels plus front and read bumpers silver. Doesn’t look any different in the pics though lol.
The shell in also all mounted up now and just needs a little more ground out of the wheel arches for clearence.
If the battery is still any good I’m gonna try charging it up for a test run this afternoon.
If all goes to plan I’ll post some footage on here later
I’d love to do a follow-up, keep me updated with your progress. The originality is what really strikes me. I’m curious, what was the most difficult part of the project? I tried to make an RC Batmobile when I was 9 and it was impossible to allocate enough room in the wheel well to allow for a decent turning radius.
