Review: Mattel's Vigo the Carpathian Action Figure

image

Mattel definitely surprised us this morning by sending a Vigo “Scourge of Carpathia, Sorrow of Moldavia” figure a good 4 months before its scheduled release! Opening the standard white mailer was filled with suspense and questions of What will he look like!? and the feeling of I CAN’T WAIT!!. It will definitely feel like Christmas for everyone who receives this Vigo figure in December when its released.

Opening the Vigo figure it becomes apparently quickly. There is something different about him compared to all the other figures. Vigo is a 6" scaled figure. He stands nearly an inch taller than the regular figures, so he towers over everyone released so far. The figure includes a pack in lenticular painting that is definitely the best thing they could have possibly included with the figure (aside from a kitten of course!). Turn the painting one way and Vigo is present with his sinister stare, turn it the other way and he disappears! On the reverse side, the four Ghostbusters are there with baby Oscar in the painting from the end of the Ghostbusters 2. Definitely a great touch.

Vigo will be released December 2011 exclusively on MattyCollector.com.

I can’t wait to get it!

hey you! the… grey… bimbo with the baby…

Can you give us the measurements on the painting?

OH SNAP! Cant wait to get that figure!

It really is a fantastic figure, if not for the Ghost trap, it probably would have been my favorite part of Mattel’s display at SDCC.

Hmmm…Vigo won’t be out until December but Mattel allowed the fan community a preview.

What’s up with the trap? No news OR chatter from weeks.

Roughly 5" x 8" I believe.

great pics, i am really excited about this figure. does the painting stand on its own or do you have it propped up against something?

It was propped up… and it really LOVED falling over.

hmmm, im sure there is something out there that would stand it up.

Didn’t anyone tell him the big shoulder look is out?

Looks good though.

I’m not a huge fan of the paint job they did on this one but… you can bet your ass I’ll be picking it up.

Loving this figure. I’ll be repainting the hair for sure, but I happy about him being taller than the GBs.

Foolish that they didn’t bother to include a stand for the “painting” to even stand, worse than no flight stand for Nunzio. But aside from that, awesome and I can’t wait to get him!

Janosz should come with the floating head version of the painting and an alter to place baby Oscar on. We need Janosz now!

I’ll probably grab this one, but I still think it looks a bit odd. Something just looks off with the way the head is attached to the neck and the hair is questionable too. I guess you can fix the pigeon toed stance, but that’s not a good look either.

Totally getting that painting framed.

Other than the paint ops, I think the figure looks great! You could probably easily dry brush some lighter browns, and really pop the details. The face looks like it could also use a slightly darker wash to also pop the details as well.

His outfit just overall seems a bit too dark to me.

There might be a dollhouse picture frame that could be used for it.

Nice that they sent GBFans a copy in advance. Odds are we’ll see the trap in advance as well then. If thats the case, maybe the brightest minds here can find a belt attachement solution for it since they are due for the busy Halloween season.

Spiff and Gareee are right. A little paint here or there and this will be the centerpiece for a great GB2 display. I think he should cut back opn the eyeliner, though.

Well, you KNOW when you go clubbing you always go heavier on makeup, right?

He’s “Clubbing Vigo”!
