Revised Proton Pack Sounds

I noticed something about the proton pack that always kind of bugged me. The device had no idle sound while energized. You know how most electrical equipment makes some kinds of subtle noises. So, I recorded some feedback from an amplifier, and then pitch-bended it to hell and back. The end result took a lot of trial and error, but I finally managed to get a sound that seemed fitting for a proton pack. I also added some of the remastered pack sounds from those dumpling overs at Hprops. (thanks again for the vinyl, by the way)

I also came up with a method for getting a more diverse, and easily-looped proton stream sound. The vibrato effect works quite well with the right configuration. I also added a slow revving sound, adding some tension as the pack slowly reaches critical mass, or overheats, I’da know.

Here are my results.

Let me know what you think.

I like it, but is sounds like it;'s going to explode.. and then fades out…

Would you mind if i used that for my pack? I’ve been trying to find proton pack sounds that are downloadable.

That’s why I did this. I wanted to make the pack sound as hazardous as it looks. It fades out because this is just an example. I got all the individual sounds, but to save time and flex my mixing muscles. So, I mixed them all into one file.

Be my guest. It’s not like I can stop you. There’s a few changes I want to make to the sounds, but if you want the pure sounds for the pack, go to Hprops.

Remastered, crisp, and clear.

Who knows? Maybe the pack DOES have an idle sound, but its so loud that only cats and dogs can hear it. That wouldn’t surprise me.

That’s kinda what I had always thought; the pack, on powering up, goes up through the frequency range (the bit we hear on the film) until it goes up beyond the audible frequency range. To be honest, that’s the sound I want for my pack. As impressive as those sounds are, I know they would get on my nerves after a while. I wouldn’t want to have my pack on without the lights being on,but you can’t have the sounds running seperately to the lights. Well, you could but it would look silly. So what I’m after is a power up sound (and power down, come to think of it, kinda like the sound you hear after the guys fire at gozer and she vanishes) that has been pitch shifted to sound like it’s gone above the human hearing threshold. Anyone know where I could find those?

Trust me the hum does get annoying  I have spent weeks working on my sound kit and I can flat out say that as novel as it is to have a constant ‘hum’ sound I don’t see many people using this feature of my sound kit…

Let me know if this sounds better.
