I know a few people have made good looking RGB packs, but has anyone ever made plans or posted measurements for said packs?

Some measurements yeah, I think so. But no full up plans yet, though I imagen someone will someday. It seems to be a prop that’s gaining popularity.
Honestly, the measurements I posted a year and a half or so ago aren’t that accurate. They’re based partially on the movie pack and what I thought looked right at the time (and there is a lot that I would redo if I make another one, both construction methods and measurements alike :mrgreen: ).
If I were looking for measurements, I’d maybe talk to XxEctOxX and see what you can coax out of him. More recently you could probably get the measurements for the smaller pack that CADmonkeyChic built/is building and scale them up to full size. You may also consider talking to irricanian about it. 
I could probably sit down and draw something up this week though, including the things I would change from my previous build.
I think that the biggest problems with plans or even a massed produced item like a shell or mobo is that it is a cartoon, so the measurements change depending on how the pack is drawn in each individual episode so eye balling it is kinda standard for building. I’m sure there are some measurements I think we can all agree on, like a 12 inch spacer and 10 inch cyclotron and a over all length of 24 inches, because those are the only elements that are more or less the same on them and the movie packs. Of course the best way to get something close to “truly accurate” measurements would be to take those given lengths and using them to measure off the dic production sketches unfortunately they are tilted and at an angle so even that is tricky. If someone were to do that though in my opinion it would produce the most accurate plans, but then again I’m no expert.
p.s. Forgive me it I misquoted the measurements for the movie packs, I’m trying to remember them off the top of my head, but it still gets my point across. 
I just checked in another new thread by JayM, who is doing an RGB pack also. It looks great so far, for sure! However, I noticed it looked a little thin or elongated, and he mentioned that he had been going off the movie measurements as far as how long the pack was. He also offered up the idea that it looked that way because the RGB version doesn’t have as many parts that stick out to the side, which is true. Despite that though, Watching the series, you never look at the packs and say, “those look kind of abnormally thin or long.” That leads me to believe that despite using the length measurement being the logical method (I would have done it to if someone else hadn’t done it first), It may be smarter to go with making it primarily proportional to width before length of the film packs. I’ve seen the same with XxEctOxX’s pack, as glorious as it really is, the pack just looks a little too long for how wide it is.
I could be wrong about using the width. Obviously, that would make the pack even LONGER, and you’d have to eyeball length, chop it down some, etc. I’ve never tried to draw designs for an RGB pack, though it’s on my to do list.
However, I do reccomend studying this newest of RGB pack builds by CADmonkeyChic, as I feel that it is the closest to accurate these boards have seen as of yet, in terms of proportions, build, and even colors, as it seems alot like to use a bit of a brighter blue for the main pack color, which is a stylistic choice to be sure, but as far as accuracy to the majority of the episodes, I believe this pack is the best so far. It was built scaled down a little, but could easily be scaled back up, as it appears the builder plans to do, as mentioned later in the thread.

And I’m not trying to dog on any people who have built a cartoon pack thus far. Just trying to make a few observations to help further RGB pack “research”. We’re still in the “Norm” stage with this particular prop, I believe, but hopefully as more people build them, and especially with the Box set being available, we’ll continue to develop and improve upon plans and ideas! :mrgreen:
well my old pack length is better. i was changing it for the new pack cause of the new measurements that was on the pack. when it was all said and done and it was time to paint, i noticed that it was too long. i didn’t have time to edit the pack due to halloween being so close. i made it a note on my thread that i would make the adjustments to the pack in due time(spring). the same goes for the gun. i never finished my new gun cause i was too focused on the new pack. so i ripped the old gun off my old pack and attached it for the time being.

I hate to derail the thread here but Ecto i can’t find a pic of your whole pack any where all i see on the other threads is a little here and there can we get a full on shot of it, so we can see the elongation problem and also i just want to check it out in all its finished glory

*Time for me to weigh in…
*While CADmonkeyChic and XxEctOxX have the corner on the RGB pack “market” [and BOTH of them have EXCELLENT packs], even theirs are missing a few key details, which I’m assuming is due to personal preference ;-)…And being as though this IS an “animated” piece of equipment we’re talking about here, with no physical prop to measure, an “idealized” pack is about all we’re going to get…Not to mention, as stated before, the pack varies between episodes…
*Case in point - The movie-style “Booster Tube” makes not one, but TWO appearances in the series [albiet brief]:
*The first pic is from “A Ghost Grows In Brooklyn”, and the second from “The Thing In Mrs. Faversham’s Attic”…These are only but samples of how it “morphed” over the run of the series…And if that was weird enough, the back handle had an almost movie-style grip in a shot during another episode [Lost the pic]!!
*It fluctuated between straight black, a deep deep blue, to even a purple [!!!] in the first couple of seasons, settling on the “deep blue” there after [with the only thing to stay the same color throughout all this was the thrower]…Well until the last season, where it was an almost “baby blue” :sigh: …The level of detail fluctuated as well obviously, with one of the lowest points being the episode “Guess What’s Coming to Dinner”…Then there was also the issue of the throwers going from being proportionate to those in the movies, to being almost the size of a rifle :sigh: …An example of the proportionate throwers:
*And even though the design unnecessarily fluctuates during the series, the few packs I’ve seen people make usually end up missing these key details that were constant throughout the shows run [though this should in no way be misconstrued as knocking people’s past efforts]:
In the first pic it shows the motherboard being of a decent size width…Some of the few do an “RGB” pack tend to treat it’s construction like one would a movie-style pack - Aluminum Motherboard with everything stuck to it - Leaving it to look like it’s missing girth…Then there’s the issue of the yellow “box”…In just about everything RGB I’ve seen the yellow ““half-cylinder”” has been just that - a half-cylinder…Though on alot of prop RGB packs it’s been a full cylinder that sticks too far out, making the pack look too top-heavy…And then what can only be described as the RGB-equivalent to the movie’s “split-looming”…Alot of the proppers that have done this have used material that was either too small or just too loose fitting…Though I see* XxEctOxX** found an excellent way around that ;-)…
*The second pic illustrates the “on” switch…These seem too big on the prop packs I have seen come before…Though having said that, I don’t know if you can get wall switches smaller than what’s already been used 
…
*The third, shows the knob “ticks”, the gun box “wings” towards the back of said part of the gun, and the forward slope of the gun box [though after making that particular pic, I didn’t see the “forward slope” in any other episodes I watched in making this]…These are details that I also haven’t seen on a prop pack to date…
*And the fourth shows the “hole” in the trigger box of the thrower, the “screw holes” on that side of the gun box, and the “bottom jut” of the gun box that has the gun hook attached to it…
*Again this should not be taken as “nitpicking” as I just want to see an uber-accurate [within reason] set of plans on this site one day, as so I, along with everyone else that so desires, can build one of their own…Please do not take this as anything but “constructive criticism”…
*Anyways, more “grunt-work” of my own:
*The first pic shows what I learned about the RGB “motherboard”…In most episodes the box with the gauge on it is flush with the back of the pack, leading me to believe it is indeed connected to the MB as one piece, and the box that the trap hook is attached to [as well as the red “booster tube”] is obviously attached directly too…It shows the cyclotron being of good width as well…This pic also touches on some of the things I talked about previously in this post…
*The second shows the back layout [sans straps], more importantly the “aluminum backplate” of the pack…
*And the third shows a combination of two different Ion Arm details - The “scalloped” slope going from the Ion Arm to the “gauge box”, and the “straight jut” of the Ion Arm coming up past the top of the MB…Strangely, enough these two details were seemingly never present on the pack at the same time…So for the purpose of being complete I suppose, I combined the two…
*So those are my thoughts, opinions, and research [on top of what I already knew]…

Seriously, good work Ectofiend. It’s thanks to guys like you that we are even able to make movie style packs. This will come in handy to a great many people I would say.

Sandra’s scaled down pack was kind of a last minute project that we accomplished in two weeks and came out awesome. Now we are planning a scaled up RGB pack for me in the future, but we are going to do more research when we build mine and then we will put templates out for it. If you have any detail finds that could help make it better when we start please let us know. We havent taken it as nitpicking. It will be a fun project to do a bigger one with more details. I want the top switch to flip open also like in the cartoon. Well see what happens.
