So I’ve been wanting to build a pack for a while now and I wanted to keep my costs down but still have a good quality pack, I also wanted my pack to be unique so I decided to make a pack with RGB and movie elements, then I came across the proton pack from the RGB pilot, which is already a mix of the two styles. So in the end I created the pack from the pilot, with some minor changes like making the colors more like the movie pack and adding some stickers and a clippard.
It was crazy how addictive this pack was, I couldn’t stop working on it and it became a love/hate relationship, im surprised it survived, but in the end I felt like Fooman in his short “Kevin gets a proton pack”. It’s so great to be done and I have pack, so here’s some pics, enjoy.
hey man this is some really great work. i always wanted to make this pack but i never got around to it due to the lack of pictures. but i have to say it looks great! good job!
One thing I forgot to mention about the pack, i wanted to have a rechargeable battery source (which sounded like a good idea at the time, haha) so i put a wind up crank on the side of the pack which was gutted from a led flash light. It ended up causing more trouble then it solved, but in the end it was fun to add on, almost like in Futurama with the the laser rifles the wind up, I should of just put the jack in the box sound effect in the crack arm for more geekiness.
Thanks everyone for your comments and I’m happy to join the ranks of my fellow busters in having my own pack. Now I just need to come up with a good name for her. Thanks ya’ll.
Just wanted to update everyone with the new addition to my pack, featuring audio. Sorry about my pack lights, for some reason their not working at the moment, but the gun works. I attached two battery powered speakers in the back and attached my mp3 player on the gun, which works since the RGB gun was just a light with vents and the two doors that opened up and its the perfect size too. So here’s a short video, sorry about the audio.
I also put RuBain’s ipod touch beta PKE meter on my mp3 player, making for a fps style proton pack with the PKE meter being part of the gun. Although it would be pretty unsafe scanning for ghosts with the proton gun.
I hate to necropost but I just saw this thread. Just wanted to say how neat I think this pack is. Its good to see something different every once and a while. Wish I could’ve seen this thread back during Halloween. Good work!
Very cool idea! I had only recently seen the pics of the Pilot pack. One thing I don’t understand is why they made it look like a smiley face? Great job on your pack! Very good job, and a great likeness to the original source!
Half right…The action figure packs yes, the play equipment was more akin to the actual show with a few accents left over from the prototype phase like at least two of the stickers on the pack and the antennae on the PKE Meter…
However having said that the prototype play gear was the spitting image of the pilot equipment (seen here in a 1986 Kenner sales brochure):
