Ribbon cable.. best price?

I just found this place:

http://www.electronicsurplus.com/dictionary/cat2173.htm

Looks like they have the ribbob cable for 49 cents a foot, minimum 10 feet. I need enough for both our packs, so I’d have enough for a one for someone else.

Looks like shipping would be $6-$10, and the cable would only be $5.. that seems like the best deal out there I’ve seen.

This sound about right to you guys?

(I think the proper cable is about half way down the page.)

Where are you looking on that page?

The only cable I see that is 49 cents a foot is a 20 conductor jacketed ribbon cable. It also appears from the sample picture to be in a solid black jacket.

The GB2 ribbon cable is Spectra-Strip, but it is a 60 conductor cable (30 twisted pair). The only 60 conductor cables on the page you posted a link to are blue, black and gray.

Looked over that page and they don’t have the correct cable…

The 49 cent stuff is 20 wire, the correct stuff is 60 wire… *** Edit as said

So you are spending $5 + shipping for the wrong stuff when irricanian sells the correct stuff for $12 and uscmbuzz sells some for $7.50 (don’t know if his is correct or not) just can’t see the logic unless you are just looking for a way to get something close for a few dollars less… Purchasing from a GB supplier also allows you to grab other parts to help offset the shipping…

… removed for incorrect info …

I didn’t see anyone with cables in stock, so I started googling other options.

I saw cables that had a clear strip off both sides of the middle a few month’s back.. those would actually be my preference.

Thanks Flynn, yes I have the correct 60 wire GB 2 cable available this week along with a new price for the set

Irricanian, are there any pic comparisons showing the gb1 cable vs the gb2? Our packs aren’t anywhere near prop accurate, but I used rainbow wrapping ribbon, since I was on a halloween deadling last year, and I need to replace it with something that looks better.

Also are you prices shipped, or do you need to add shipping on top of them?

I already have the proper C clamp, and made the bolt on clamp for the sync generator, so I really just need the cables. As I mentioned in my last post, someone had found cables (I think) that had a black/gray center strip, and I think a clear portion on either side of it, with the rainbow colored ribbons on the outer parts.. I have no idea if that is GB1 accurate, or if it just something somone was using.

the cables for 1 and 2 are completely different. as far as i know noone has figured out what the cables from 1 came from. they were handmade a little while ago by a few members on the forums.

Solidgoldcaddy and java are both selling GB1 cables over on Proptopia. I am selling the correct 60 wire (30 pairs) GB 2 spectra cable, shipping is additional.

Correction.

Java is selling them. SolidGoldCaddy is trying to raise money in order to purchase materials in order to be able to make them.

I stand corrected.

Either way they are both offering a cable despite how they go about it.

Well, it sounds though like they are preselling them in order to make them.. that’s a big difference then already hacing them available to purchase.

Since my packs are close to accurate, I haven’t purchased any aftermarket accurate parts at all yet, when I could find something else that was a reasonable stand in, but I really need some decent cables, instead of what we currently have.

i scored some of the spectra strip cable on ebay for about $1 a foot a while back. it was the current production version of the stuff they used in gb2 - it has 64 twisted pairs, so you have to cut off two pair, but it can be made 100% screen accurate that way.

none is turning up on ebay right now, but here is the part number for future reference:

843-132-2801-064, and it is made by spectra strip.

I’ll probably order from irranican, since he has it, and at least its supporting some of our “troops”.

I prefer the gb 1 stuff, but if ya can’t find it, ya can’t find it.

The correct part # is 132-2801-060 and it is 30 twisted pairs

Garee…who’s irranican?

so obmit the preceeding 843, or was that a mistype? i wasnt aware they still made the 60 pair.

Still very easy to get if you want to fork up the money for a 250 foot roll…

I’m going to clear something up since the terminology being used by some is incorrect.

The correct ribbon cable contains 30 twisted pairs. This translates to 60 individual wires or conductors. 60 twisted pairs would be 120 wires.

Yes I already said that, look up
