Thought I’d start a thread since I couldn’t find one…
Event: San Diego Comic Con International
Dates: July 23rd-26th 2009
Location:
San Diego Convention Center
111 W. Harbor Dr.
San Diego, CA 92101
I’ve never been to SDCCI, although I’ve gone to it’s ■■■■■■■ sibling WonderCon for a few years now. At this point, I’m hitching a ride with some friends who’re going and plan on traveling light so I can save some cash and potentially live out of the con… money’s tight and I can’t justify spending the $300 or so it would take just to split a room. This means I’m (probably) not going in gear (which isn’t done, YET) but I’d like to know who’s going and maybe meet up!
I was close to the wire when I got my full pass. I volunteered last year to get in on Saturday. I believe they’ve added alot more restrictions on volunteering this year since so many people used to get in last year.
San Diego is really cracking down on the scalping and fake tags from what I hear - you can only register online and will have you name printed on the tag, and get “scanned” whenever you enter the con… hopefully you don’t have to have your picture ID with you too (but I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes that way soon)… So unless you want to pay to have someone else’s name on your chest and a strong possibility of being ejected, I wouldn’t support scalping.
“Rumor has it” that Ecto 1 AND 1A will be there in conjunction with the 25th anniversary stuff. At least that’s what I thought I read over on theecto1.com
Cool beans. I’ll be attending again this year. (I’m pretty sure I will have the basic costume done by then. No hardware or goggles for me!)
I want to know the whens and wheres because I have two other costumes I’m bringing with me to the convention. (I have to wear my Sam costume at least for one day. The Sam & Max comic is nominated for Best Reprint this year.)
I think many are waiting for a schedule to get posted to see if there are any GB themed events this year, and hopefully we won’t have a repeat of last year’s con with events getting cancelled at the last second.
Get there early for both lines and parking. After the schedule is posted plan your time. Some panels have lines that form several hours before. They also don’t clear out the panel rooms so some people may sit through 4 panels to wait for the one they want to see. They are always chaning the way lies for exclusives work. Sometimes you go there and get a ticket and come back at certain times. Eat outside the con. There is limted and expensive food only in there. Granted all food in San Diego is not cheap but go out somewhere, if nothing else, just to have a break from the crowds.
Cool. Thanks for the tips. Panel wise I’m thinking Doctor Who and The Mighty Boosh (Newsarama says this is airing for you guys the week before the con). Otherwise its people watching and shops and a few autographs for me.
I’ll be there all 4 days but wont be wearing anything GB related until the Sunday where I’ll be wearing my custom made GB jacket =)[‘might’ wear it Thursday as well] I really do hope Ecto 1 will be there~ I will be so ecstatic! =D If there is an event arrange what kind of special events would happen? Like would they be announced on the day or would they be sceduled in? First time going to ComicCon [and America] so not quite sure how events really lay out.
Well I look forward to seeing the convention and dont be afraid to say Hi if you spot me out =)
