Scratch building a ghost trap with squeeze bulb doors

I’m toying with the idea of scratch building a ghost trap with doors that are opened like the squeeze bulb deal that Kenner’s trap used. This will be for my friend’s 4 year old son to go along with the proton pack I built for him. I’ve never examined one of the Kenner traps and don’t have any idea what the air pump mechanism looks like. I’ve tried some ebay auctions for an actual Kenner trap but so far they have gone for more than I was willing to pay. I would appreciate if anyone that has one of these things could describe the door mechanism and how the air pump opens them,or maybe a drawing showing this. Thanks!

I just so happened to be repairing a kenner trap.

in short, there’s an air cylinder the red piece attaches to the arms on the trap doors. When the pedal is squeezed, the air cylinder moves up and the trap doors are forced up from the eccentric nature of the red loops and the offcenter pegs on the doors.

So it’s basically an air piston type of mechanism. And the pegs on the trap doors basically act as a pivot type of deal when the piston rises. I’ll start scrounging around for a suitable air piston-y thing and a squeeze bulb. Thanks for the pictures. They are a big help.

Look forward to the results!

I found some small solenoids with a push/pull action on ebay for 2 bucks each that I may try using with that slider pin deal for the doors.
