Buying a real one is out of the question sooo…I’ve started to build a Bacharach sniffer from scratch out of 1/4" and 1/8" MDF. It will have a removeable baseplate to change batteries and a backlit screen and a few LED’s for show. Here’s my progress so far…
I’ve been considering doing a Sniffer for a project just for the heck of it. I had the idea to buy a lab coat put a patch on it and go out as a “research” Ghostbuster or something.
Nice! Just one of your little toys?? : P So, does a Bacharach sniffer detect Burt Bacharach albums? : ) They are really expensive. Keep us posted. Not like I don’t like seeing packs, but I enjoy seeing the oddball stuff being worked on, too!
That looks great! A great addition to any Ghostbuster. You don’t see too many of those being made. I am interested in working with MDF. Any tips for using this material? What is the white substance used on the corners in you progress photos? Is that wood filler?
Wear a mask when cutting it! There’s all kinds of nasty stuff in the dust you don’t want to be breathing in. It sands real easy and yes that is wood filler, Elmers
I know I am gonna get some flack for Necroposting, but I was searching on the Google for Bacharach sniffers and this came up. I looked around on your profile and couldn’t see anything on this. My question is this, Irricanian did you ever finish this? What became of it? It looked good. Sorry for necro posting.
irricanian hasn’t been on this forum in 11 years, so unfortunately it’s unlikely he will reply.
I suspect (but can’t confirm) that he made the labels for his Sniffer. I can confirm that while they were a reasonable approximation to what we knew the labels looked like at the time, we have better reference for them nowadays, so the labels on irricanian’s Sniffer replica are very inaccurate.
