Here are some teaser pics of something I’ve been working on for the past few weeks, a scratchbuilt RGB proton gun. This is my first project. I did not want to show progress pics before I got to a point where it actually resembles a thrower. Pardon my awful photography. I will take better pics and closeups once its complete.
I still have some work left to do as you can see, but I’m happy with how its coming along.
That looks really good so far. Any plans for a light or sound package?
Thanks! Lights are a definate, the pilot light and blue switch will light up, I haven’t wired them up yet. I want sounds but that might be beyond my skill level.
Wow! That looks fantastic. Great mixing of the cartoon and movie. It looks like it could definitely co-exist in the movie “universe”. It almost seems to me that this is what the throwers could eventually look like if they decided to take an Apple approach to design.
Thanks so much. I’m definately aiming for a movie-inspired ‘real-world’ deco on this project. The pack itself will also be a mixture of both styles, whenever I get to it.

As promised, I am proud to present my finished RGB thrower. Its so cool holding something in your hands you wanted since you were 8. Especially if you made it yourself.
100% scratchbuilt body, assorted knobs, conduit fittings, and hardware. Stickers are downloaded from this site and stuck on with double sided tape. I went for RGB shape with movie realistic deco. I took some artistic liberties. My favorite touch is using the movie’s clear barrel and wire. I made the wire yellow to reference the yellow tube on the RGB thrower.
This is my first (real) prop. Enjoy.

Very, very nice scratch build! One thing I would suggest, possibly get some brown material to cover the foam grips. you can use fabric glue and zip ties to put it on, just a thought

Thank you all very much for your kind words. With the quality of props I’ve seen here, I didn’t think this thing would compare. I appreciate it. irricanian I may add different grips later on. I couldn’t even find a suitable grip that fit the rear handle so I just left it off. I’m sure I will make upgrades and parts swaps to this piece over time.
For the rear grip I would suggest the traditional formed grip from the Movie Throwers. Other than that this is AWESOME.
Thank you very much. I considered a movie grip for the rear, but I can only find them in pairs, and did not want to use two. Perhaps that will be a future upgrade.
