When I say official I don’t mean canon. I think Ghostbusters canon will be something up for debate for long, long time.
A little behind the scenes on why I’m considering it official -
I work in a comic shop and part of that job is to keep track of comic franchises and their many branches. What we do in short is keep a record of what is official. Not just from out standard but from the standards of the publishing companies in how they see their products. I know what you’re thinking. So what? Well, when a company whether publishing, film production, tv production etc branches off they most often treat that as a chance to have completely separate franchises.
For an example of Spider-Man check out the spoiler.
Spider- Man is a great example of this. In Superior Spider-Man the character of Spider-Man is actually Dr. Octopus in Peter Parker’s body with Parker’s conscience still guiding him. In Ultimate Comics Spider-Man Peter Parker has been killed off and another person has taken up the mantle. And in Ultimate Spider-Man Peter Parker is alive and well as Spider-Man. Marvel has become famous for it’s control over it’s franchises guiding them for purposes that are years down the line but even they have 3 branches running with contradictory stories
So yes from my experience all signs point to official. Official doesn’t mean quality but it still stands for something. As far as canon goes I wouldn’t even bother. Any more canon doesn’t mean jack so I wouldn’t argue one way or the other about canon.

In the comic shop we have a running joke that you know something is Official if it sucks and Fan made if it doesn’t.

In the above quote, was what you stated earlier. I’m still confused as to what exactly makes the USF pack an “Official” pack? If you’re saying because it’s an authorized recreation by Sony to replicate the pack by somebody else in their own way they envision it, then I understand what you’re getting at.
However, that doesn’t in no way make it 100% accurate as you’ve said earlier, to anything if you’re not comparing the pack to anything else GB universe related. I know you may have meant it in a different way, but it doesn’t make any sense to me. The listing in the auction didn’t even list the pack as “Official” because we know it’s not. It only lists it as a recognizable tool of the Ghostbusters. This more than likely wasn’t even made by the same prop builders of the original movies.
We are all here to keep the community informed with what’s out there and what we all know. I’m in no way trying to insult your intelligence, but I’m saying this based on what we know from doing the research. Not saying you’re misinformed, but telling others it’s an “Official” pack only confuses the subject of the item. Sony didn’t endorse it as official or gurantee it’s accuracy so we don’t need to assume that. We aren’t calling our fan made packs “Official” when we know they are recreations of the original to include the USF pack.

I understand what you mean when you say this. I just think your term for “Official” and an item having meaning are two different things. All of these props have meaning to all of us and that’s in our nature of who we are as fans. I’m just seeing it from a different viewpoint that’s all

It looks nothing like the screen version ( a quick google of ghostbusters matte paining) will show you what I mean.
Was it an alternate?
The stairs one looks right. I would have had it at that price!
I won the stairway matte. I think it was the more significant of the two.
The skyline matte, while visually more appealing, shows up for literally a second - the first shot-angle when the rooftop explodes. Maybe someone can do a screen cap.

I don’t think the person who would bid on that pack was in it for the screen accuracy, real “used” prop collectors are a whole other breed then the replica enthusiast.
Not only more significant, but also far far cooler for the GB collector.
