I said the same thing Vince …looks like a vac formed shell, but a shell of what, I dont know. Could you imagine the pack/packs you could build from parts available here with that $4000.-6000. budget they project as its auction potential …I dont think they will get any thing near that…Video bob could recast that and nobody would care ..lol
That Proton Pack is a part of Ghostbusters history. Just not movie history, it’s not a film accurate pack but I remember as a child any family trip to florida would involve a visit to Universal Studios Florida, including several goes through the Ghostbusters Spooktacular show. I even got them to go see the show seven time in one visit! These were the Proton Packs that they used throughout the show and afterwards when taking photos I remember I got to hold one of the wands and my mind was blown away (i was ten). She may not be pretty, but those packs went through a hell of a lot, more than their film counterparts and would be really cool to own.
Fairly certain though that this isn’t the original pack that USF used. They used to have a lot more accurate packs made from actual fiberglass shells of an original. I think these are the ones that they made in the 90’s / late 90’s after the ride was cancelled to replace the fiberglass ones that were falling apart.
90’s for sure, but not before the show was taken out. I have a picture of me as a child holding Louis Tully’s bright blue green thrower that is no were near accurate. I’ll see if I can dig them up, but at some point the packs stopped being accurate but it was before the show stopped.
Its not the first time one of the USF packs have been up for sale ..there was one listed here in Florida on Craigslist of all places…and it was a much better offering …it even had the right color labels (With inaccurate text mind you ) but still the right placement, and it was far more detailed …not sure if they vac formed right over one of their retired 1st gen shells but judgeing by the looks of the booster frame area on this pack I wouldnt doubt it…compare it to the ones in the pack lineage thread and there’s a considerable quality difference .
If I had money I’d buy that proton pack. I’ve noticed a lot of folks claiming that the pack is inaccurate but you know what? It’s not! It is 100% accurate. That is an official proton pack. As official as the various packs from the films, the video game, RGB and EGB. For decades we’ve struggled to make accurate packs and each year something pops up that makes your brand new pack inaccurate. But with this pack you are guaranteed accuracy. I know it’s not perfect or exactly like the one we see in GB1 or GB2 but in this nearly 30 year battle for accuracy wouldn’t it be incredible to own 1 pack that is 100% perfect? Personally i think it would.
Looks like the final sale prices are still unverified by the auction house, but the pack shows that it went for $4,000. The Stantz suit says $0, but I’d be surprised if it didn’t sell. Staircase painting says $2,750, skyline painting says $5,000.
I’d say the staircase painting was more iconic than the skyline but perhaps the skyline is a better decoration piece. And yes, I’d be very surprised too if the Stantz suit didn’t sell. For me that was the most interesting piece.
$4,000 for that pack is pretty absurd and we all know it even if it’s lineage came from the Spooktacular show. As mentioned from other sites and wiki’s, the proton pack is one of the more sought after props from the movie whether replicated or in original format. People are willing to pay top dollar no matter what even if these items are nowhere near as accurate or detailed. To each their own I guess.
Again this may be off topic, but you may want to look again at what’s been referenced on this site for the last 10 plus years for proton packs. It’s pretty noticeable that the packs in the movie and the USF pack sold are clearly different. It’s your own opinion for what you think is accurate and what’s not, but all the info is right here on this site so there’s no reason to question it. If you say it’s a pack guranteed to be 100% accurate, then how is it if this pack doesn’t even remotely look like anything else nobody on here has ever seen before?
How do you know it’s 100% accurate? I don’t get it, but that’s a whole other topic unfortunately :sigh:. I don’t mean to call you out man, but I just had to address this.
I didn’t say it was 100% accurate to the film. In fact I make mention that it’s not. Each edition of Ghostbusters (GB1, GB2, RGB, EGB, USF and GB:TVG) had their own version of equipment so there are many versions of the proton pack out there. This USF pack being one of them. Folks may not like the way it looks but it is an OFFICIAL proton pack. It doesn’t matter whether you liked the Ghostbusters live performance or not it’s an official part of Ghostbusters and so is its equipment. Being an official part of the GB universe means any and all of it’s equipment, uniforms and characters are official too. Is it the best looking equipment compared to the original? In my opinion it’s not but it is accurate because it is official.
Just because it was part of a licensed performance related to the movie, I don’t think that automatically makes it an “official” part of the franchise any more than it makes the actors from that show “official” members of the canon team (sorry, Wayne Brady). That pack is basically just a jerry-rigged prop to be presentable for the later shows, and it’s certainly not worth $4,000. I hope the person who spent that much on it did their homework first.
