Slime Grabber...thing....

I was just wondering…did anyone ever try to tackle the “slime grabber” that Ray uses in GB2 in the sewers. I took a close look at it several times and it ALMOST looks like is has a VERY similar base body as the proton gun with several other twists and knobs and suck. The only major addition would be a light and mechanism to extend the arm. I was just wondering what you all thought.

I resently watched GB2 for the 100th time and I noticed that Ray extends the arm manualy but there is a fishing real that he uses to retract it. And the cup looks like an ice-cream scoop.

I really dont think it would be terribly hard to build. I may study the film and pictures tommorow, do some research and sketch up some plans.

Not sure how accurate these are to the final product, but here are two pieces from my collection…concept sketches for the scooper:

Those really do help, gives me a basic idea for the body. Under closer observation I realize that the entire thing almost is just a fishing pole with crap thrown onto it…ah the masterfull mids of prop building at work…lol. But you can definantly see the housing for the fishing line above the props main box in the film, but there is no fishing line involded in the prop. At this point the hardest part is coming up with a mechanism to extend the rob with the scooper attached. Anyone that could help me there is welcome. (I belive the extension is on a crank, considering ray is CRANKING that side whell to reel it in.)

Just watch that scean again!! Im tellimg you Ray just pulls it to full leagth, no moters, no springs, just phisical ability

well I kinda hate to bump this but was curious did anyone explore this prop anymore? I was looking at various parts and it got me interested in this prop again…

That looks to be a fly casting reel. And I could swear that’s a project box just under it, with four hex screws. There may be another project box at the other end where the scoop is. I’m not sure where you would find a scoop that size? Looks larger that standard. Also don’t know what would make a good telescoping handle. But it’s do-able, with the right amount of research.

there are some great pics of it in the misc props reference pics section. I’m wondering if its a little bigger than an ice cream scoop and its a cafeteria scoop or something else.. :?: some type of food disher…

yeah while Ice cream scoops look to have the one scoop and the ‘cutting’ part, the other food dishers(some larger ones I found) I’ve seen have the second scoop that would enclose it, I think.

the “scoop” looks to be about the size of a baseball maybe

I was thinking it was somewhere between the size of a baseball and a tennis ball.

I’m glad to see someone bring this one back up. I wanted to say something about it before halloween but I wanted to wait until I finished my pack. I’m such a horrible prop builder, my pack is still in peices! When I was watching this movie it looks pretty simple. Looks like a couple of different sized project boxes with a few lights… some doodads… and I agree with the flycasting reel comment! Building a static one shouldn’t be that hard. Getting one to open and close the scooper attatchment like the movie might be a little tricky. But I hope someone builds this thing soon!

I wanna say it looks like the handle could be 1" PVC with a cap on the end in that one pic  but yeah it’d awesome to see someone tackle this…

on an unrelated note, I was wondering if anyone just for fun would put together a yellow construction helmet, orange gloves, yellow rain suit and replicate the subway costume..

The end actually has a handle just like the handles on the proton gun. I can’t remember…but I saw a pic somewhere.

watch when Ray first goes down the shaft…I wonder if thats 3/4 loom or if it looks like it might be 1 inch or so…

EDIT: Nevermind, seeing it extended it looks to be phone cord or something like that. Definetly a box or two, a flashlight, some pvc, phone cord, reel, scoop and you’re in the right direction.

-Zack

It is a phone cord…I stared at a lot of screen shots and paused the movie several times to do a detailed sketch of the slime blower that I have laying around here somewhere. I know the design fairly well. If I had the parts, I could build it and have it look pretty close.

Wow here it is a year later! I may be trying to do some kind of version of this prop. I know some people said they were gonna look into doing up plans but maybe they were abandoned. Saw a cheap “toy” fishing pole today which kinda got me interested in this again. I mean a pretty cool gadget that no one would know what it is. We’ll see if I get anywhere with it or if I lose interest as well.

EDIT: Wow this topic is old with no one ever making one(that we’ve seen) I may try to look at some more reference stuff to get it goin. Wonder if the scoop is something put together as all the food dishers I have seen I think are the one half scoop style. I’m sure there’s something do-able out there.

Sweet!!! I seem to remember seeing another set of plans once. I read in the other Slime Grabber topic on proptopia that you had gotten your hands on the design sketches for it! Very awesome, and helpful to hopefully get someone started in the right direction!
