I just picked up one of these and it is essentially a battery-powered hand-held fog machine and produces “puffs” of fog. The puffs actually produce a pretty hefty puff of smoke… then you have to wait a couple of seconds and then it can puff again. It uses a water-based fog solution.
It is a little large to fit inside a RGB trap intact, but I’m sure with the talent here someone could retrofit a RGB trap to fit on and/or take it apart so it would fit in the trap. (This latter thing is what I’m going to try, once I manage to get a RGB trap.)
But so far, this seems the ideal solution, not involving chemicals, or smoke bombs, or anything pyrotechnic in nature. This is safe and can be used indoors.
It works very well. It produces a lot of “fog” but it does so in puffs. So you hold part of the trigger in order to let the element heat up…then when you squeeze it puffs out a nice cloud of fog. I’d say you can put out a puff about every 2-5 seconds.
I haven’t put mine in a trap yet. It might fit intact in a movie-accurate trap, but I know it is too big to fit inside a RGB trap, so it would have to be taken apart and retrofitted somewhat, but I havent’ tried that.
I just got this a couple of days ago, tossed in the fog fluid and gave it a shot. If we can get it to fit in a trap, this is definitely the solution we’ve been looking for as far as a smoking trap is concerned. Or it at least brings us a step closer.
Coming from experience as someone who uses fog machines alot, the one problem being enclosed in the Ghost Trap is the fact that it will condense on the inside, the liquid is heated until it forms a gas, like all fog machines do, and after it is released some will remain inside and form condensation, especially when it cools, and since the Ghost Trap is a very small enclosed space it will quickly build up and may potentially short out any electronics
I had completely forgotten about the Wizard Stick, (I have the Zero Fog Blaster), but it would be great for making a smoking trap, if care is taken with the condensation (i.e. you should wipe it down after each time)
This technology is actually cool. Its much different than conventional fog machines. I was looking at a friend’s little fogging bowl fountain last night, and I told her how it works. In reality.. these things are very simple, they run with water and turn it into vapor (rather than steam) by using high resonance and vibration.
I’ve been meaning to pick up something similar to play with but haven’t..
The cool thing is, this would do a realistic effect as the vapor is heavier than air, so it sinks.. but I don’t think it would really last very long inside a trap. I bet the water would recondense on the inside before it makes it out.
The other bad thing is.. there would most likely be a open water element.. I’m sure you have to keep it upright or the water will spill out. I don’t know how that wand is made, but I’m sure it has some way of water escaping.
I would just have the cord for the fogger going out through the foster connector, and in some split loom so it looks right.
The nice thing about this.. you can buy ones with LEDs that pulse and fade between colors. If you have the doors open, it would create a cool effect of catching a ghost!
