Some Questions..

Ok, well I’m a pretty well-rounded fan and have been with the Community since Bill’s board. I’ve discussed and researched what I’ve been able to, and honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a confirmation on any of this.

No doubt many of us saw Ghostbusters II in the theaters when it was first released almost 20 years ago. And since the widespread use of the internet, we’ve all learned of all of the deleted scenes that were cut.

I was almost 3 when I saw GB2 the weekend after it opened, and I still remember bits and pieces of my theater-going experience. Now, this is where I get confused. I don’t know if my mind had implemented something I’ve read and made it part of my memory or what, but was there ever a scene that showed Vigo in storage, before being brought out and put “in de Arc”? It could be me just thinking something, but I have this image of Vigo being IN storage before being brought out. I seem to remember painters or something in there with him.

Second, totally non-related, but why did Aykroyd & Co. feel the need to update the logo? I can understand they’re back, but how many movies actually change the logo (if there is one) for a second film? Just seemed kind of odd, because assuming they didn’t go out of business again, shouldn’t the second logo just be used throughout all of the ventures? Was that ever explained?

I have way too much time on my hands in the morning.

There’s been no other account of a ‘in storage’ scene, so it’s probably just a false memory.

The logo also serves in highlighting the fact it’s the second movie, with the two fingers held up. But I can’t fathom the reasoning for adopting it in-film. Presumably they went back to the traditional one eventually.

Thanks for the clarification.

I knew that was the case with the logo, but I just didn’t understand the Firehouse getting a new sign, the Ecto-1A’s transformation, and the whole new uniform thing.

Maybe it’s just me digging too much in to it, but it always just seemed a bit out of place.

Here’s something I said in a recent topic

My guess or reasoning was it was a short limited promotion to get peoples attention since maybe people had seen the car around and knew they were doing birthday appearances and whatnot wanting people to know they were back. But yes in reality it was the plug the 2nd movie. I never gave it a second thought honestly until people said it irked them haha

Ecto-1’s change would’ve made a lot more sense had they kept one specific scene, where it was seen finally breaking down. Thus, the 1A would’ve been ushered in as the new car, and the new technology was there for promotion and to update the vehicle which hadn’t changed in five years.

I don’t so much have a problem with the GB2 logo as I do with it just being a little out of place. I know companies update their corporate logos all the time, but hypothetically, if there was third film, would they still use the GB2 logo or revert back to the first one, or even a new logo all-together?

Was the 1A meant to be an entirely different vehicle, or was it the Ecto-1 modifided?

I’m pretty sure they would have gone back to the original logo shortly after the events of Ghostbusters 2. I forget how much time is supposed to have passed since they went back in business up through the end. I don’t think they even put that much thought into it. They probably just thought new movie, new logo for the second half.

Needless to say I don’t think Aykroyd and Ramis anticipated us 20 years from then asking questions like this. haha

haha more than likely. Probably at the time changing the logo a little didn’t seem to be that huge of a deal to them for the movie. Now looking 24 years later, it’s crazy how iconic it still is today. I do like having the 2nd logo for the 2nd movie. I guess 3 fingers might seem a little too “obvious” if anything does ever happen for GB3 hopefully the logo will stay the same or a slightly different version. :whatever:

Well, really, as GB2, items directly licensed from it (ie the novel, Now Comics adaptation), the Kenner ECTO-1A (which was the same as their ECTO-1 just with different stickers) and the 1989 edition of the GBI role playing game were the only places the two fingered logo appeared, it’s a safe assumption that it was probably quickly discontinued “in-story”. RGB and EGB didn’t use the GB2 logo, and if you want slightly more “movie oriented” examples :eyeroll: neither did Ghostbusters: The Return. And all of the material released to date for the video game uses the GB1 logo. I’d think if Aykroyd wanted to use a different logo, they probably wouldn’t say no to him.

AS for the ECTO-1/ECTO-1A, that’s been debated for years. The GB2 novelization came down on the side of ECTO-1A being a different car, but I think it’s more telling to use a bit of common sense. I forgot who it was, but a few years ago someone on GBN (D. Osborn or Chuck maybe?) boiled it down to this: you don’t need a new licence plate if you just give your car a face lift. A new car would take a new plate.

The best fan conjecture comes from common sense…, besides… in the beginning of GB2, you clearly see the old dirty Ecto-1 pooping and puffing like an old man with lung cancer from her tail pipe… yes you might be able to repair it, but i think they were hinting that the old car was about to keal over.

I look at 1A as a totally new car…

Which is why in EGB the ecto-1 looks more like a 70s model hearse than a 59 cady.

What do you think, Fritz… is that the 1A after a face lift, or is that also a new car? I’ve always wondered that.

We’ve pretty much assumed that the EGB ECTO-1 is the car that was originally the ECTO-1A. Egon drives it in “Darkness at Noon, Part 1” before it gets refit, but it really didn’t look all that different from what it did when it was “restored” in part 2.

The “real” reason the EGB car didn’t look like a '59 Miller Meteor, as far as we know, is because Adelaide and/or Sony didn’t want to pay GM. So they made a design that wasn’t technically the same as the earlier versions of the ECTO-1, it just looked enough like them to be recognizable as ECTO-1.

It’s always possible, if you want to take the EGB ECTO-1’s appearance more literally, that the second '59 Miller Meteor (the ECTO-1A) gets trashed or something at some point after RGB ended but before the Ghostbusters actually go out of business the second time. I usually don’t go that far, however; except for the PKE Meter, I don’t really get ■■■■ about the different equipment designs being significant.

I thought I would just throw this in on the GBII logo. It only occured to me after watching Ray’s monologue when I was in High School thinking “critically”

I can't believe things have gotten so bad

in this city that there's no way back.

		Sure, it's crowded, it's dirty, it's noisy.

And there are too many people who'd just as

soon step on your face as look at you. But

there've got to be a few sparks of sweet

humanity left in this burned-out burg. We

just have to mobilize it.............something decent, pure bla bla

After this scene I thought that the logo was more of a sociopolitical statement and you get it smacked in your face with good ole Libby. Love ya The GBII logo is flashing the peace symbol. IMO GBII ended the Cold War. :walterpeck:

edit: this comment is chock full of sarcasm please don’t take this as a serious explaination for the logo

I never understood the hub ■■■ over the logo. It was a marketing ploy, update the logo people will look, it’s something new, something interesting, they wonder what it is. After a while the hype would die and they’d go back to thier normal logo.

It’s like cereal changing thier shapes or ■■■■ like that for a limited time only.

See, that’s the rational, logical way to look at it. Which is exactly why it’s escaped so many people.

Actually, it was Rocky Balboa who ended the Cold War.

I have to agree with what Dan said above, about the logo changing for a limited time before going back to the original!

Ive always seen the GB2 logo as a means of letting people know they were back in business & the new look uniforms & new look Ecto-1 A were meant to grab the publics attention more, i imagine that this logo would have been used for around a couple months before using the GB1 logo again, i.e for a limited time

Just a way of promoting a business to be seen

I know some fans have never liked the GB2 logo but me personally it never bothered me, yeah i prefer the first logo but i see the new one as a short term promo thing which is still cool looking nevertheless

The GB2 logo never bothered me but there is no denying how iconic the original is. The original logo is one of the most recognizable symbols in the world.
