Why did their patches change? Possible stupid question...

Alright, so we know why there was a new poster and movie logo, it was a sequel,m second movie, 2. But what i never got was why did their patches and building sign in the actual MOVIE also change to this? In the movie they dont know theyre in a sequel, and yeah they kind of went away and came back, but what would the “2” signify then, theyre second time being in business? Just never really got it..

i believe it had more to do with the theme of everything. “Peace”

I, like some other fans, don’t see the GBII logo has holding up the number 2, but holding up a peace sign.

Which is silly because I don’t really remember any 60’s anti-war over tones in Ghostbusters Two. I do remember it being a sequal and making more sense that way, but hey whatever some people need to believe to convince them selves that a stupid idea is less stupid.

As for me, yeah the GBII logo is annoying and slams fourth wall continuity down the drain, the only way you can look at it is as thier second time being in buisness, so they’re advertising it as such.

Just think of it as more of an “Inside Joke”. 1. We’re Back and 2. It’s a sequel. :vinzclortho:

I’ll never understand the whole “it’s a peace sign” notion. Never never never.

I think “inside joke” is probably the best descriptor thus far.

i also think it has to do with being a sequel. that makes the most sense to me, BUT i always wondered if it had anything to do with all the hate and violence in the city and the peace sign had something to do with that. Since all the negative vibes were the cause of the slime reacting the way it did… :whatever:

I think it would be dumb moreso if there was nothing in the movie about good/negative vibes, psycho reactive slime, New Yorkers needing to come together and be nice but like jimbo7 said, just the fact that there are those elements of the script/movie and so many people made the connection says enough for me. Whether it was intentional or not, I think it’s cool that it can take on that meaning for a lot of people. Yes it’s the sequel and the second movie. I honestly never even gave it that much thought.

They were also probably known to be driving around the city doing birthday appearances so the new logo probably could grab people’s attention that way as well. Letting people know they were back in business. You could think of it as a limited time promotion.

I think it’s cool to hear the theme fade in and the GB2 logo show up and then fade into the regular logo on the Ecto door.

IN YO’ FACE!

I have to concede, the GB II logo does totally destroy the fourth wall for me. As a GB geek, I can easily rationalize it as meaning peace,or that they’re making peace with the city that sued the hell out of them, or we’re back, or whatever I need to…but I know that it’s primary purpose is to promote the film Ghostbusters II. And I think putting it on EVERYTHING was a little bit much. If if had been isolated to just the car, or just the firehouse sign, or just the suit patches, it might have been easier to take…But it’s all over the place.

Businesses commonly change their logo at times to drum up new customers.

Consider that they had been doing parties for years, while no busting ghosts. So in order to let people know they are “back in the business” , so to speak, they roll out a new temporary logo to catch people’s eye. Think new Coke/Pepsi can designs. They don’t change the drink, but they may catch your eye.

I agree They were the symbol of peace in the city full of hate and violence. Remember it was the hate and violence that created the river of slime that was pure concentrated evil. Look at the painting of the guys at the end the painting that was behind Vigo’s. It was peaceful, the protectors of dana and oscar , the city of NY and the world. Plus when asked how he felt after being covered in the positive mood slime Ray replies “Groovy”. The world of today here in 2009 needs the positively charged mood slime. Stantz84.

They didn’t know that when they changed the logo.

Some idiot in the costume / art department was like.. LETS USE THIS GB2 LOGO!

You’re too young to FULLY Understand what My GB 2 post was about. Administator or not You’re 22 I’m 28 pal. A big difference in memory The fact remains I know what I saw and what they cut out of it, and to your reply on the change patches for GB 2 the costume dept guy wasn’t an idiot You are. How can You say that ??? GB 2 is about good and evil and the power of both. Duh. You NEED to do more research before you post your opinions. Secondly I have met Dan Aykroyd and I know more about Gb than You do FROM THE ONE AND ONLY RAY STANTZ. Thank you very much .

I can’t help but wonder what the characters, not the actors, were saying to eachother to rationalize the suit change. It helps me to think of it that way. Ray: “Hey, maybe we need a new company logo to show everyone that we’re the new and improved ‘peaceful’ Ghostbusters! You know, just in case the themes of peace and harmony interfere with our jobs sometime in the next few weeks?” If you think about it likes this, then the explanation that there is NO reasonable explanation is inevitable. A marketing ploy. Booya.

lol and Bill Murray is my neighbor :whatever:

also, it was most definitely just to promote the movie and it is not a peace sign.

Get the ■■■■ out of here

This was some funny shit here.

So, when did the Hope House start letting thier house members use computers?

This is going to be one of my favorite classic posts here on the forum. BTW Stantz84, I know more about GB than you because I turn 29 in 3 weeks!

Wow, I really hope that was a joke Stantz84.

I have to side with AJ on this one. Story wise it makes no sense as a peace sign because the new logo comes into use long before the whole bad vibes killing the city connection is ever made. It may very well be that when the logo was made by the production designer that the original intent was a double entendre of Sequel/Peace Sign, but it was poorly thought out. And so we end up with a logo that looks goofy and breaks the fourth wall. Even when I was a kid I never liked the GBII logo, and children are really the only place where you’d find a forgiving mindset about that :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m 29 and I approve this message :stuck_out_tongue:
