Hello!
For context, I decided to modify a Netrona Wand with a propane torch and laser diode in an attempt to create a ‘working’ replica model. I knew going into this that it wouldn’t be easy and many mistakes would be made.
Everything was going somewhat according to plan until shortly after I installed the push-button spark ignitor for the propane torch. The extendable wand was replaced with the propane pipe, and the lever that initiated the extension was repurposed to push the spark ignitor. Come to find out, the spark ignitor needs to be grounded in order to work. I repurposed the steel spring from the extension system to use as a grounding wire for the spark ignitor. Success! Except that I forgot to insulate the grounding wire from the rest of the components. Apparently, spark ignitors put out somewhere around an 800V charge, which is much more than the usual 5V current that the circuit board was built to handle..
Some strange noises were heard, and some sparks were seen, which resulted in half of the components malfunctioning. The only components still working, to my knowledge, are the AA battery compartment (Upgraded part), the speaker, and the small, internal button that engages and generates sound effects for the wand extension/ retention (Which is how I know that the speaker and battery pack are still functioning. There are no visual burn marks, bulges, or other signs of damage to the circuit board. I purchased a multimeter that should arrive tomorrow, but I’ve never used one nor have I attempted to troubleshoot a circuit board. So the Journey continues..
Unfortunately, I know nothing about troubleshooting circuit boards which is what brought me here seeking the expertise of the GB Fandom.
Questions:
-
Would it be possible to salvage the circuit board and the other electrical components?
-
Are replacement circuit boards available and if so, should I just buy a new one and save myself some time?
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and any help would be greatly appreciated!
Respectfully,
Cody
