Did a quick and dirty tear down of the new gigameter. Hope it’s helpful for anyone curious on how this thing works. I stopped at the light dome because I wasn’t sure how it came off and I didn’t want to break this thing on the first day of owning it. The plastic is cheap, but actually much better than I was expecting. Also, be EXTREMELY careful with the ears. They feel softer than the rest of the unit and feel like they can snap or have the gearing stripped if they get bumped hard or held in place.

Looks like it’d be fairly trivial to solder an inline resistor to lower the speaker volume (I’ve read complaints that it’s too loud).
Yeah, I’m not too worried… and I’m probably going to just disconnect the speaker. OH! I totally forgot to mention that the JST connections feel like they’re glued in place using something other than hot glue. I wanted to disconnect them, but they wouldn’t budge.
