Starting a new Proton Pack (Pics intensive)

Since the last few packs I did werent exactly the best, I decided to take my projects of figuring out how to make proton packs out of household items to the next level. This project is going to be the best sofar, its got a RGB design, with a Ghostbusters movie color scheme with partly my own design and made completely from stuff commonly found in the home.

These are all pictures from tonight’s progress, I still need to paint the pieces, attach the motherboard to the A.L.I.C.E. frame and then attach the pieces to the A.L.I.C.E. frame. I’m perticularly proud of the fact that it lights up, considering I bought nothing except duct tape sofar. I also plan to put red reflectors onto the cyclotron, NOT those orange pieces, I’m also adding yellow reflector strips to the Ion arm and other little details to give the pack more character and make it a bit more quality. Once this is done I’ll get to work on the Neutrona Thrower.

I absolutely LOVE to see people use what they have available, and a ton of creativity to make props! To me, that’s almost more enjoyable than building from scratch and making a completely accurate pack. I guess it kinda makes me feel like I’m really building an actual object. It makes me feel like one of the characters in these movies… trying to find the right parts and peices to put something together. I’m sure when Egon built his proton packs it took alot of research and trying to find the right components and get them to work together. Building from found items kinda gives me that feeling. Trying to find the right thing to fit into this thing… and trying to modify this doohicky to fit this other doohicky… make sense?

Stan - keep it up!

I agree! To make a prop from found items reeks of creativity 8) This is what prop building should be and needs to be encouraged. I got lots of compliments when I built my futuristic pack, can’t wait to see what you come up with in the end. Keep on proppin’

I encourage others to give it a shot.

That’s looking really nice! What have you used for the base, I can’t quite make out if it’s wood or cardboard.

now that is awesome. using what you have to create a pack. I cant wait to see this project evolve. Keep up the good work

I’m really diggin’ the cyclotron and spacer.

Excellent choice in parts!

Its made out of balsa wood that I had cut, but I dont have a way to round off the bottom. I dont currently have access to a power saw, so I was considering just hacking off the two corners and covering it up with the cyclotron and the spacer. Until I do get the means to round it off that is, but I can do that any time, I’ll just have to remove the cyclotron whenever I get to do it. I painted most of the parts yesterday, all thats left is the cyclotron needs to be painted and then I have to figure out how to attach everything, I’ll probably just use a screw gun to attach the cyclotron’s base to the motherboard. I’ll put up pictures in an hour or so, but first, food is calling for me!

Still trying to get this thing done guys, any suggestions on how to attach the power block to the motherboard? I cant screw it in because its made of mostly duct tape and foam blocks. ANY suggestions would be helpful, thanks!

Well… I say 2 part epoxy should hold that thing on indefinately, assuming it’s not overly heavy… afterall if it’s just foam and tape it should be fine!

Thanks for the tip, I have the pack all assembled now aside from the labels and one last thing, the bumper for the Cyclotron. I have a few ideas for what I might use, but I figured I’d ask here if anyone has any suggestions for what to use as the bumper. Thanks!

i too am making a found items pack, and i got lazy and didnt feel like building a bumper so i used a peice of rubber stripping for use with lenolium flooring it was like 3 bucks and it didnt turn out too bad its sturdy enough to not look shoody but you can still cut it with scissors, or i was toying around with idea of using curtain hanger track… what ever you can find will work really

Stantz,me and you are gonna have to get together soon so we can do some props together and so you can get to see my 71 Ambulance up close.

Sounds good to me, man. By the way, I should have some pictures up soon, the pack is completely constructed (aside from the bumper) and painted now, I just need to make labels for it and thats that! I’ll get some up soon. Thanks for all your help and suggestions sofar guys!

Just bumping this so it doesnt get lost, I promise I’ll get pictures, haha, I just havent had time yet.
