Hey everyone, I am a newbie to the forum and would like to build my own Proton Pack. But, before I go and build a 1:1 scale I thought I would build a small one first.
My wife is an avid scrapbooking nut, so I “borrowed” some of her stuff, and I away I went.
I am using Stefan’s Plans, and scaling them down in Photoshop. I’m starting by cutting out patterns, then planning to use foam board to build it up and make it come to life. The pack will stand about 10" tall. I’m gonna try to keep everything in proportion as much as possible.
So far I have only worked on it for one night, by I think it will be a great piece when it is done. Think I will put lights in it too and put it on my desk at work. Now I am on the lookout for a few odds and end pieces such as what to use for the cyclotron & clear thrower tip etc… I have a bunch of old paintball parts I may be able to use.
If anyone out there has ever built a Mini Proton Pack, I am all ears for any tips or suggestions.
Here is what I have so far…not much, but a start, I will be sure to post more pics as I go.
Alright, night 3 and it looks more like a proton pack, kinda. I think my cyclotron needs to be a little bigger…but other than that I am pretty happy with it. Looks like tomorrow I will be sanding, bondoing, and then more sanding. Can’t wait to finish this one so I can start on the big one, that I can actually wear on my back.
Alright I’m back again on night 4. I didn’t get as far as I would like but, progress non the less. I came across a coffee can lid that will work better for the cyclotron, so that’s a plus. I was able to get the motherboard cut out of foam board, and got most on the main pieces glued together, although in the pic below they are just sitting on the motherboard. I initially wanted to bondo everything tonight, but since I have never worked with bondo before, I wanted to test it out on a reject foam board piece first. So hopefully I can bondo tomorrow night, then sand the next night, and prime and paint the next after that.
Does anyone out there suggest I use gloss, matte, or semi- gloss paint?
Well here is what it looks like tonight…very similar to last night…oh well…
Ok I’m back to working on my mini pack tonight, I was able to bondo it the other night, and get it sanded tonight. I was able to get quite a bit done on it tonight but it is 1:44am and I am tired. Here is the progress so far…
Bondo’ed ( Kinda looks like a proton pack blew up and fell into the river of slime)
and the rest of the pics… going to try and prime and paint tomorrow, enjoy the pics everyone…have a great night…or morning!
Thanks Canthor! I can’t wait either, getting ready to work on it a little more tonight. Going to start on the thrower. I think the full size pack will actually be easier, my hands are to big for this…LOL
Ok guys, I’m back for more. Here are some more pics as the mini build continues, hopefully will finish up the paint job this weekend and can focus on all the details and LED wiring.
BTW…I have already started on the thrower for the 1:1 pack…guess I couldn’t wait.
