Sunday Conversation #3: Thrower Build

Since I’m all “I want to build this stuff myself”, this question is directed to the more seasoned veterans out there…or anyone who has an opinion. I’m not picky…lol

I’ve started 2 throwers using 1/8 plywood. In my opinion, they look just ok. These will be for the kids so it’s perfectly acceptable to me. I’m starting to forward think about what I want. No offense to the master craftsmen that offer the perfect kits, I just don’t want to spend 150 (+). Plus I’ve got that ego thing going of “I can do this”…

So the big question is, if you were going to build your own, from square one, what would you use and how would you get there? I’ve done plenty of research on the old school methods so don’t flame me there. I’m asking from today’s perspective considering newer plans, better materials and far more research.

And…discuss!

Well Freud would say that your ego comes from a distant longing to revisit your childhood. Just kidding!

I have a custom pack in mind for when my hero is done and I’m think I’ll use 1/8 and 1/4" PVC sheets for the major parts.

Oh it’s not distant. I’ve decided to start aging backwards from this point forward!

I’ve built a couple from styrene:

It’s not necessarily as sturdy as a solid resin cast but I haven’t had any issues with cracking yet.

14 gauge steel.

I’m basically useless when it comes to other materials!
