Styrene Thrower: .080 or .125 suggestions?

Summer con season is coming up fast and so is my Anime Expo deadline to debut my pack (sans electronics)

Currently finishing up the cyclo and spacer section and soon to start on the cosmetic plate to soon marry it to the "top shelf " but I’m already thinking ahead to thrower prep.

The question I’ve landed on is: I’m making the body out of styrene, would you recommend .080 thickness or .125 thickness? Pros? Cons? Suggestions?

Many thanks in advance!

.125

Its thicker. A bit more sturdy. And when it comes to compensating for measurements, its easier to work with. ( 1/8 inch increments).

But thats just my experience

.125 is the way to go. You will be glad you went with the thicker material. .080 isnt much bigger than 1/16th, so you will gain strength and the thrower is less likely to flex when touched/handled

i was hoping you’d reply to this.

also jc3994, check out the build in his signature because his styrene build is bad ass.

I used .08, easier to cut square and easier to bend the top curve: GBFans.com

I used a mix of 0.06 and 0.08 in both of my throwers, adding layers for strength where needed, and reinforced all inner right angles with a small bit of square styrene rod. I haven’t really bashed it about too much, but handling it, its as solid as a rock.

I used .080 for mine and funkpunktwangs throwers. I used some square rod in all the corners to give it extra strength. However I wound up having to replace both of them with TC kits because I grew tired of repairing them. If I were to scratchbuild again. I would use .125"
