The ECTO-1B...Daytona Speedway!!...UPDATED 11/29/2009

A lot of you have heard we (Speedmonkey80 and myself) have been working on a new ECTO, with the help of a new friend. Well now, it is my pleasure to finally tell everyone about it, and show some pics!

The car is a 1970 Cadillac Miller Meteor, and was purchased on Ebay, and delivered from Georgia to here in Central FL.

The delivery was an adventure of it’s own, with the tow crew first wondering if they could even fit the car on the flat bed..The good news was.. it fit, and the car even drove onto the bed. Which it working was awesome news. Then.. on the way back.. the trailer got a flat.

But finally it arrived..

Before the body work began, the guys took it out on the road to test drive it. Of course the large size made it feel like driving a boat on land, but as they were out and about, they were already getting people yelling “GHOSTBUSTERS!!” out the window.

So on with the construction shots..

The body and interior look great, and you got fender skirts. Something we wish we could find. You’ve already got a good body line from the mirrors to the tail to paint red for the fins.

Right now the car is in the mechanical stage and lots of new parts have been ordered. The good thing that is being fixed is the front end suspension.. so that will help take away the feeling of it driving like a boat.

The exterior of the car is scheduled to be completed this month, with the painting starting this weekend. The interior is set to be completed by November. We can’t wait!

Some more pics of the car as it stands (some of the pics show the roof rack and light bars, which were put on there so that holes could be drilled for future mounting).

Here are some of the items we have already in preparation for the roof rack and interior..

Stretcher!

We have multiple blue lights..

Side hose..

Whole box of fun electronics and switches, as well as the siren..

MARS light and siren..

Yup, that’s pretty amazing so far and it’s not even painted yet!

This should be sweet

Wow!

That is just freaking awesome.

Nice work so far.

ok… That is gonna make a KILLER Ecto.

We really need to somehow get all the East Coast (and others if they’re up for the drive) Ectos up to New York for Halloween in 2010 for the parade…

ok, that’s a thinly veiled plan for me just to be near an awesome Ecto car since it’ll be a LONG time before I have one of my own unless I mod my Blazer…

I freaking can not wait to see this thing! Great job so far. Where did you find the “texas instrument” switch box? Or did you make it?

The switchbox is actually in pieces, found the aluminum box at skycraft and all the knobs, what you didnt see was the 4x4 1/16th aluminum sheet we are going to cut down to make the faceplate of the TI box.

The mechanical should be done by the weekend and in paint by next week then it really starts to roll.

Sweet, I may have to come up and see this in person when this beauty is finished

We have an event coming up on Oct. 2nd that it will be at, along with the Mach 5. Come on up if you are off! Remember you’re our groups “people person”

I’'ll see what I can do once I’m back in the office on tues, I’ll let you guys know the minute I find out.

Amazing find!!

Will make a great ECTO

Keep us posted!

This is going to be spectacular. Great choice for a vehicle!

Thanks Boomer, the mechanical should have been finished over the weekend or will be done in the next day or so and then paint by the end of the week. Im at the edge of my seat with this thing. We want to bring it to DC next year if we can find a spot to store it. We will keep everyone updated as the project moves on.
