I don’t know, I think it could be cool. Like I mentioned before, I’d like to see the Ghostbusters setting up to take the business international by the end of the film. Maybe they are in the support mode for the movie, training newbies, Egon and Ray inventing stuff, giving pointers as Egon did in XGB, and at the end, we see that they were trained to take over the New York station while the originals step back to work on setting up world wide offices.Inventing new and improved elimination technologies, supported by income from across the globe,
Let’s face it: as much as we would love to freeze time and have the original 4 forever as the main ones, it won’t happen.
That’s what video games are for. Those can fill the gaps between GB2 and GB3 infinitely. It’s a 18 year time span at least. Plenty of story to tell. If we want more cinematic adventures, we’re going to have to settle for XGB: the movie. Besides, no one’s saying the guys won’t show up during the final battle to pull the new kids’ butts out of the fire. Alot of people seem really pessimistic about all this, but I’m soaking it up. What other film getting a sequel 20 years after the last one, gets on Good Morning America, BBC, and countless other media outlets, just because of news that they’re writing a script?! That alone should make you proud to be a ghosthead because our movie STILL matters that much. People STILL know who to call!
And if it doesn’t happen, we’re getting a new comic, a manga, and a video game (which could possibly have it’s own sequels)!
Still though, as Ray said “We’re close on this one, I can feel it!”
Listen, we’re all nervous here about how the new potential film will end up but I’ll wait until the script is finished and some sort of review comes out before freaking out or not.
I think we all know that part of the comedy of the new film will be that the guys are getting too old to be catching the ghosts themselves so they will play up their age and weight a bit. They will have fun doing that I think.
But yeah, I really only want to see Carrel and Rogen as new recruits fumbling around a bit. There doesn’t need to be any more new members until the 4th film. Hudson, Carrel, and Rogen would make a great little team in the film I think, with the rest of the crew helping out a bit.
I really hope if they have new ones that it isn’t ONLY the Apatow clan I mean there is so much comedic talent available out there a diverse bunch would be great. Maybe like Rogen, Rainn Wilson, Steve Zahn, and Will Arnett or something to that effect. And get Chris Parnell a role, maybe not as a Ghostbuster but something; he’s damn funny.
I’m sorry, but I really don’t want to see Seth Rogen and Co. anywhere near this movie. They’ve got a great sense of humor, but I think they’re more crass than class.
Again, for dream cast for the new crew, here are some old shop jobs I whipped up a while back:
I did see Simon Pegg mentioned elsewhere on another forum as wishful thinking, and I kinda have to agree. I think Pegg would do nicely in the khaki.
Whatever the case, I would like to see Ernie Hudson leading the team. Kind of like a drill seargant/point man, training the new recruits and taking them into action. Ramis and Aykroyd would serve in the mentoring capacity, maintaining the equipment and such (with Janine by Egon’s side), while Murray would act as the company head…the CEO of GBI (wink, wink, Fritz ).
I’m gonna try and figure out other actors that would work well in the film, work on some 'shop jobs… Kinda seeing Jewel Staite and Sean Maher on the team…
I mean, I’ve got nothing against Rogen. He’s a hell of a nice guy and funny, too (know from firsthand experience while I was an extra on Zack and Miri)…
I think Seth Rogen would work well in Ghostbusters, out of any potential “new recruits” it’s he and Ryan Reynolds that have the qualities that could lend themselves to the material and compliment the established team.
Reynolds has charisma in spadefuls.
It’s ALL about the script.
Ghostbusters isn’t about sex humour, there are some classic lines that hint at it “what a crime” but nothing out and out vulgar.
As much as I like Apatows flicks, that kind of humour won’t awlays lend itself to Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters is subtle and witty…
About to face near certain death- “Art Deco…nice”… “this guys a sailor he’s in new york…”
The geeky stuff - “of course Pete you forget I was present at an undersea unexplained mass sponge migration” is as funny as “this man has no dick”.
But there’s nothing to suggest Reynolds and Rogen can’t do the mroe subtle stuff.
Ghostbusters humour arises out of the incredible situations and the guys being all too aware fo their short comings.
“Sorry Venkman I’m terrified beyond all capacity for rational thought”
I can picture Reynolds and Rogen on a first mission offering the not very reassuring words…
“Don’t worry we handle this kinda thing all the time”
I’m going to have to completley agree with Luke on this one. Ryan Renolds and Seth Rogen would make solid new additions to the franchise. Renolds is a master of the subtle, sarcastic and witty quips that fit in quite nicely with the traditional ghostbusters comedic style. As far as Rogen Goes, I’ve liked him in everything I’ve seen him in (Pinnapple express, Knocked up, 40 year old virgin) and thiers no reason the script writers couldn’t ‘tone it down’ a bit for him.
I’m sure some very cool things could go on in a new movie.
I for one would love to see a movie that has advanced on past the 1st Generation Line Up of Ghostbusters… a movie set more so in the future (or present time). Where the Ghostbusters have replaced the Army as the largest enemy is now the dead.
I have to agree with the group of people hating the idea of Seth Rogen and crew having a possibilty of being in this movie if it gets made. Again all this is just fun wishful thinking. Honestly…this movie is sooooo far away from being made its silly. We’re just one step closer then we have been for a few years. But if you don’t mind me doing some fantasy casting here wouldn’t Peter Gibbons, Simon Pegg, or Jason Batemen be good choices. I know for a fact Simon Pegg is a fan (there are pictures floating around of him and Nick Frost in front of the firehouse). I think a lot of the comedy in GB was delivery and facial expressions. All these guys are awesome at that.
Also just another thought: I hope if they do add new guys they don’t add 3 new white guys and one new black guy. That would be so painful. Who do you guys think would be a good new recruit if they decide to add new blood? And who do you think would be a good female buster?
Personally, I think setting the bar at Seth Rogen and company is a bit low for a franchise of this caliber. The Rogen gang has come out with a few modest comedies based on everyman situations and toilet humor (not that I don’t like that sort of thing), and it’s completely wrong for Ghostbusters. Not bad, just wrong.
These are unproven “new kids” on the block, so to speak. It would be like using the cast of “Screw Balls” in 1983 instead of the brightest stars “Saturday Night Live”.
I haven’t noticed someone bringing up the idea of using Stephen Colbert (though I may have just missed it). Someone around here used an avatar with his face in place of Egon’s, and it was awesome.
I could get behind a Colbert/Stewart/Carrell casting. They’ve got a natural chemistry that was built up from The Daily Show and had a similar startup like Dan, Harold and Bill.
I can’t see Carrell, Colbert, Stewart at all. No one has mentioned Dave Chappelle. Probably wouldn’t happen, but dream big, eh?
Also, Seth Rogen and Co. would be fine, but here’s the problem - the original team worked because there was but one screwball. If Apatow’s crew were to inherit the unlicensed proton accelerators, they would all be that way. I think Michael Cera would be a funny Ghostbuster. Jack Black before the baggage. Hell, Eddie Murphy STILL.
Of course, the audience I’m telling this to probably doesn’t even want Bill Murray to be in it, based on some of our previous encounters, so I’m not sure any of my choices are going to make sense to you.
