hey Gareee, have you seen that show “life after people”? Pretty interesting, they say it might take 1000 years or so…the pyramids will be all that’s left. how soon can you have your rocket ship ready?
I remember seeing that when it was just a one day special, but is it a TV show now? How does the TV show play out? Something that disappointed me about the special was they were showing what happened if we just all disappeared, but I’d like to know what effects, if any, the rotting corpses of 6 billion humans would have on the world during the first few weeks after our souls departure.

yeah they didn’t cover that aspect..it was a lesson on how water and plants will break apart mortar and stones. so, basically, everything’s going to crumble. the animals were thrilled.
Speaking of the “life after people” show, have you ever driven by and looked at an old abandoned farm house and wonder how long it took for it to get to that state of disrepair and neglect? We have several around here that I have passed by for many years and still wonder “how long?” it must have taken to get there.
I think of our planet like it’s our house, if you don’t take care of your home it will eventually crumble and fall down and be uninhabitable.
On the recycling points, in some cases it is actually cost prohibitive to recycle some products and causes more pollution in the process. I think the best way we can avoid all the trash is to have it stopped at the point of manufacture. How many of our products have excessive packaging? A LOT if not most. I bought some vitamins the other day for example and the bottle was 10 x the size it needed to be for the product inside.
We seem to live in a throw away society these days and that’s the big problem. Use to be when something broke you would fix it, now you just throw it away and buy a new one. We’re our own worst enemy

Ink for our inkjet printer costs about $40.
I just bought brand new inkjet printers with ink, for $24 each. And I bought two.. why? So when it runs out of ink, I can just toss it, and use the other new printer.
I shoulda bought 4 or 5 printers…
irri and gareee, you guys are so right. until this thread came along, I never thought about the costs and extra pollution involved with recycling. so i learned something there. of course I still will say that I like not having to bag those items that go in the recycle crate.

Regardless of humans fudging numbers to achieve their personal agendas, I don’t doubt our impact on the environment. Last time I checked, nowhere in nature does oil pump itself out of the ground, refine itself, transport itself around the globe and burn itself off by the millions of barrels each and every day. If it takes scaring people to get them to change wasteful lifestyles and finally get to work on alternate fuels, so be it.
Of course, I’m not really encouraging lying in the name of progressive thinking. But it does seem that people have no interest in these things unless you make it seem like an impending tragedy. As has already been said, it’s better to clean things up NOW than wait until we’re knee deep in our own shit.
