We’ve seen instances where the proton packs have been exposed to water. Sea Fright, Beneath These Streets, and The Devil in the Deep are such examples of this. They don’t overload, or burn out. Heck, you can even fire a thrower under water(Beneath These Streets)! Any theories as to how this is possible, besides you can do anything in cartoons or on TV?
I have no scientific theory for why the packs don’t overload. I also recall an episode “Once Upon a Slime.” When Winston and Peter are in the Ecto-2 and a giant shoots them with a squirt gun and there guns don’t work because the water shorted them out.
I had the same questions you did. Why is it when in one episode the packs get submerged in water and the packs still work just fine and in another they get hit with a small amount of water and the packs short out?
I think it might be the fact that there were so many writers on the show and according to the DVD they were pretty much working night and day hammering out both the Network and Sindicated episodes at the same time, so it may have been really hard to stay consistant with how the equipment would react..
That. That right there. To top it off, they even changed story editors, which further complicated any semblance of pseudo-science consistancy.
I guess they figured if there was enough jokes and blasting of monsters nobody would care if what they said one thing in one episode and something different in another.
I had always thought Egon might have found a way to make the packs water-resistant. But yeah, continuity errors always seem to complicate things.
