Since AJ made the new aluminum thrower knobs in the shop and declared in the interest thread that he wasn’t making the small side knob since it’s “just a shaft collar” I’ve been poking around trying to find anything that comes close to accurate. I found a promising candidate online that’s used for RC Helicopters so I went to my local hobby shop and picked up these:
The first one is what I’d originally found online. Not exactly accurate, about half the diameter it should be, but slightly better than a plain shaft collar and only $3.
The second one is something I found while poking around the store. If I grind off the other side it will look better than the first one but it’s also too small, I have to find set screws for it and the hole isn’t 1/8 (though it’s close)
The search continues but I figured I’d share these options in case anyone else picked up a set of knobs and was looking for alternatives for the missing one.
Ha nice work solar, I bought a shaft collar then put it in a piece of 1/8" and put that in a drill press. Then (here’s where it gets stupid) I took a hack saw and while the collar was spinning I sawed it in to the right shape. It came out looking like what you would imagine it would, but it was close enough for me. Considering my pack is MY PACK I kind of like that one small wonky detail.
But I would strongly recommend that no one try to follow my lead.

Nice finds, everybody. Glad this thread popped up. I was planning on using this little guy. The OD is a little small, but the width is correct, and the inner diameter is close (metric).
