Toggle Switch Not Fitting in Trigger Box..Help!

Hey guys, I have been searching and can not figure out how to tackle this. I have the new GBFans wand kit, it just came in the mail today. I can not for the life of me fit the black button switch and toggle switch into the trigger box. I am using the newest ThrowingChicken kit. It’s driving me crazy and I don’t want to break anything trying to force it in there. I do not have the little bracket on the inside of the box. Any help, tips, suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Ovwthrillseekr and myself just had this same problem today. We ended up cutting the back of the trigger box out. It looks more GB2 semi hero now but that was the only way we could get the button or toggle switch to fit.

hmmm. I was thinking about possibly doing something like that. Do the wires show once you reattach the back?

Not really. There is just a hole in the back of the trigger box. It looks pretty much like all the old resin trigger boxes did

Alright, thanks for the help. i will figure something out.

Sometimes its how the soldering has been done… Looking at the pictures of the kit, it looks fantastic, but it looks like the wires are soldered straight down under the pins. I had another kit and resoldered mine…if you know a little about soldering you can detach the wires and re solder them at right angles so there is more room between the switch and the instrument bar. you just need a fairly cheap soldering iron and some shrink wrap…

Same goes for the red pushbutton switch and the wires that poke out there…

Might just want to get a switch with a smaller casing and resolder the wires to that. They are out there.

I ended up running the two switches through the back and put a strip of black tape on the back. Practically unnoticeable. The gbfans kits are amazing! Made my life a lot easier.

I did the thing AJ suggested. Got a micro switch and wired that in. Fit it in with no problems.

I couldn’t for the life of me get the GBFans switch or the button to fit into the trigger box. I broke one of the button’s contacts off trying to bend it in. It frustrated me enough that I ended up just cutting a hole in the back. Good to know I’m not the only one who had trouble with that.

Hmmm I used the GBfans kit and TC’s new wand in my build I just posted. I ran into the same problem. I just used my dremel and slowly sanded the bottom of the inside down until both switches were able to squeeze in with minimal force. Didn’t take long.

Great idea! I actually considered doing that too, but that was after I already ruined my button and ripped into the back. Oh well. Live and learn I guess.

I’d get a smaller switch before I’d drill a hole out the back of my trigger box. Not sure what size is being used on the GBFans kit, but here is the one from Heavy Props, and they get even smaller than that.

The switch in your photo looks very similar to the GBFans switch, though I don’t have a comparison photo for size. I just couldn’t figure out how to angle and bend the switch to get the darn thing in, so perhaps the GBFans switch is bigger. Another challenge is that the switches on the GBFans kit come pre-soldered with wires and heat shrink (which is nice), but this makes it more difficult to bend and fit into the box, so it’s probably a good idea to remove the wires first (like julz already said).

If the electronic kit makers want to send me their switch, soldered up how it goes out to their customers, I will try to do my best to adapt my trigger box to accommodate them all. This has been frustrating to me too, it’s been difficult to get that information from everyone.

I think as long as long as there are some options to make it work then I personally don’t have any problem with the way it is. I wish I would have tried the suggestions mentioned here (discovered after the fact), but my frustration led me to cut the back out. The gun kit is fantastic and I have no problem with this now that I know how to do it right next time.

Not sure if this helps, but here are a couple of pictures I didn’t realize I had. (The button pictured is the replacement one, not from the GBFans kit). I don’t know about you, but to me those switches look to be the same size.

Have you considered filling it back in?

Absolutely! Once everything is all hooked up and working, I’ll fill that back in like nothing ever happened.

For those that are having problems. We have a new switch upgrade for the GBFans Wand Kit that will more easily install in the TC wand kit (namely the trigger box).

Available here: Electronics: Wand Light Kit Replacement Switches - GBFans.com Shop

I know this is an old post from last summer but the small resin piece inside the trigger box slides out y’know. It allowed easy access to the inside.

I had no problem fitting my switch inside (upgrade from gbfans).
