Tripod trap used in an episode of seaQuest.

I know it’s not a big deal but in a second season episode of seaQuest (“Dream Weaver”) right before an asteroid lands in the ocean while Lt. Brody and his team are getting ready to recover it you see him talking to a nameless crewman who’s holding a tripod trap when Capt. Bridger calls him.

So ST VI had the Giga meter, seaQuest had tripod traps, and the PKE popped up in a few different things.

The Ecto-Goggles popped up in Sixteen Candles.

PKE meters were in “They Live” One of my favorite movies.

I second that. An often overlooked movie.

The Tripod traps also appeared in the pilot episode of Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. I took a few screen caps.

At least they finding other uses for the Ghostbusters props.

And it’s not in storage collecting dust.

But I think I rather see it on display instead though… Like they did for the proton packs at the Hard Rock Cafe.

Planet Hollywood…not Hardrock

Oops…

Thanks for the correction…

They aren’t Ghostbusters props.

They are available for rent to any movie or person I believe as well.

As long as they’re not retired…

Chris, some nice shots there. Are we able to get any shots of the ‘Tripod Trap’ cameo in Seaquest?

I hate to say this, but no. They didn’t. The goggles we see in Sixteen Candles are actually regular old NVS PV5 night vision goggles, the kind the ecto goggles are based off of.

It was seen quickly (5 sec tops) and season 2 still isn’t on DVD.

This is from the website of the company that made and or own them.

I could have sworn they had the lenses on them. My bad!

Actually, from that screen grab, it doesn’t even look like the same goggles as the Ecto goggles. It looks more like they did what we often do, and bought welding goggles and attached lenses to them.

Chris

When/where in Star Trek 6 did the giga meter appear? I’ve seen the movie, just not the meter… wait- it’s not when they’re scanning the ship for traces of Klingon blood is it?

Ecto-Goggles also popped up in Supernatural… but I’m sure anyone could’ve guessed they would. What with all the Ghostbuster references.

Those ones in louis and clark are like, glowing they’re not quite traps, but they could be a cool new design, but not the original tripod traps.

The Tripod Traps did have a glowing yellow cylinder, it just didn’t show up that well in the scene.

The things in Lois and Clark are the exact same thing in Ghostbusters II

Huh.. Well I’ll be derned.

Yeah, they’re the tripod traps. I can’t tell you if they lit in GB2, but the ones at the prop studio obviously did, given the picture above.

Rumour has it that they also appeared in Austin Powers: Goldmember, but I can’t confirm it.

My big question, though, is why the traps have different stripes every time they show up in anything? If I remember correctly, the ones in GB2 had broader stripes than the ones in L&C, and the ones in the picture from Modern Props have them striped sideways. More up and down, than side to side. The striped cylinder also seems to be taller in L&C than the MP pic. Perhaps, like the antennae, they could be raised an lowered, depending upon the scene.
