Hey folks, going to build this for Halloween as a pack that can be taken to the bars in Philly with little risk of damaging anything expensive. Plan is to try to do it for around $150. Right now here is my overall design for the pack, I would appreciate any suggestions at this point as I plan to get started this week. It will be built using various pieces of plastic tupperware containers attached to one another and then mounted to an alice pack. Smaller round and rectangular containers will be attached on top of the main body along w/ some hoses, wiring, and stickers to give it the proper pack look. I plan on using some kind of a 2 liter or similar bottler mounted on the side as a slime tank.
Finally the Wand will consist of a beat up old Kenner pack wand, modded to include that recently released slime blower looking water gun so it will be sort of similar to the GB TVG wand/Slimer Blower Mk.2. Again any suggestions or ideas, now is the time.
I was thinking what would be really cool is if I can figure a way to get a fan or something inside of the cyclotron which will have a sort of window you will be able to see into with slime that will be backlit w/ a green light, to spin and make it look like it’s mixing the slime to keep it ready to blow.
Despite what some people here may think, you can also try some project boxes from Radio Shack and some electric boxes from a hardware store. If you connect the parts with liquid nails (you can use a few drops of hot glue or superglue to keep them in place while the liquid nails cure) Your pack will be pretty damn crowd proof. Check out some of the budget packs along with Alan Hawkins pink foam pack.
It’s great to lay out your idea (And it looks like it’s a good one.) but be flexible too. Walk through the whole store, grab items and see how they fit with other things you found. The only thing that also come to mind about your idea is that some Tupperware does not take paint well. Even the Krylon Fusion stuff can have a problem (In my personal experience) I don’t know if there is something they put in the plastic to make it non-stick or what but be aware and do some testing before you bond something to your motherboard.
Sounds like a good plan, I used School suppy boxes for mine (Got it from the Dollar Store). Tupperware should work as well. Just wondering what will you be mounting the Tupperware on? I ended up useing a big plastic Cutting board.
Tupperware is a bad choice because painting it is difficult.
I built our packs for halloween usng electrical boxes, but if I was doing it today I’d use EVA foam to build packs.
Look into those puzzle edged floor mats at harbor freight… they are made from eva foam. They are quite cheap, lightweight, very durable, can be easily cut, sanded and even shaped with a heat gun or the oven. Many people are building iron man and mass effect armor from them.
You can glue them with hot glue, but I’d recommend something like walmart dap contact cement.. its a bit slower, but far more heat resistant and durable.
Two packs ($20) is all you’d need for the foam materials. But you would need a dremel, and probably one of those $20 soldering iron/hot knives as well. I also use an orbital sander.
Yeah tupperware can be difficult to paint. I had to use sandpaper on the one or two that I used so the paint had a surface to stick to. You’re suggestions sound really good too, I might try that next time.
