For now I’m treating it as separate from the already announced movie, but today it was revealed Sony and Netflix are also collaborating on an animated movie and Kris Pearn is attached to direct. It is said to be in early development.
I’ll believe it when I see it.
Just satiate my Lower Decks urge but in the Ghostbusters universe please.
I’m hoping for some of that angular New York cool that got into Spiderverse and Mutant Mayhem, but the director’s previous is alarmingly bland.
It worked for Spider-man. I think a Troll Hunter’s type of animation would be a perfect fit.
Someone mentioned on BluRay.com they should set this before Afterlife to show how the original team split up. Makes sense. It’s animated so everyone can appear younger. Just need their voices.
(However they’re also in favor of ignoring AL/FE because of inconsistency with the original movies or getting rid of everyone except Phoebe and another scientist like Pinfield…anyway…)
I was thinking Egon would not need to talk. All of his communication could be done over the phone through Ray and whatever research he was doing. The movie could jump between Egon preparing in Summerville and NY with the business struggling. Of course Ray wouldn’t realize he was right yet but the audience could see why he didn’t believe him and why Egon’s behavior changed.
I know they’re not going to do this but I think it’s a cool idea.
Yeah, I’d be down for them using an animated canon movie to explain that period in time rather than prose or a comic but I don’t know if there’s enough meat for a feature length story unless there’s one more significant case they dealt with before Egon relocated.
For some reason, Murray’s nickname for GB2 popped in my head as I type out this reply, “The Last of the Ghostbusters” but no way they’d use that for a title.
Ya there’d have to be some secondary storyline. It couldn’t be an End of the World thing either cause we know they were only getting small jobs.
I’m thinking since Egon is obsessed with his research he does not join them on calls anymore. So we don’t see him much. There’s an argument between him and Ray behind closed doors that we don’t exactly hear. Then they discover he left with their stuff.
Ray, Peter, and Winston still keep the business open as long as possible. At least to finish up something. Maybe some pesky ghost(s) that’s causing trouble around the city. They still had their own proton packs in Afterlife. They wouldn’t necessarily need the Ecto-1. Then it ends with them going their separate ways.
I’d be up for that but I don’t think setting the new series back in 1991 will help Ghostbusters move forward away from the OG cast or expand the universe, which I’d guess is Ghost Corps current priority - I could be wrong, maybe they’ve decided to follow Star Wars and stick closer to the OG source, but I think this series is more likely to be set in the future than the past. Based on the whole Ecto Force idea. The animated movie could be something unrelated to the series as well. We have very little to go on. Makes sense to have at least one of them flesh out the characters of the movie universe and set up a third live action movie. You’d think, but maybe they have a different plan.
If by little info, you mean zero then yeah. I’m fine with a new team if it doesn’t turn out to be a show marketed towards the six year old demographic. Star Trek Prodigy was alright, but I could have done without the very young voices. That’s why I skipped Mutant Mayhem because of Donatello sounding so young.

But it worked in that context, these are the Turtles at the very start of their adventures in defending New York, they’re learning the ropes of being heroes… And by the film’s spin-off tv series, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Micah’s voice had finally broken (although I thought it was funny that child-prodigy Donny still had an unbroken voice in the film).
The film’s definitely worth a watch for a genuinely distinct vision of the TMNT compared to what we’ve seen before (and, frankly, it’s a massive improvement on [i]Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and the TV show was also very enjoyable (especially for the guest vocal actors).
Anything’s an improvement on rise. I just didn’t care for the arts tyle of that series. It felt like such a downgrade from 2012. I loved the spider-verse series, just not fond of the Claymation look to the turtles.
Well because it’s for Netflix, you have to naturally wonder if there’s a connection to the animated series they’re already working on. For instance, the animated series might begin in media res with a team or several already established and in business so more like RGB than EGB. But for whatever reason, Netflix liked what they were seeing and greenlit an additional movie. Maybe this movie could serve as the origin story of the main team in the animated series, their first case which basically traditional at this point apocalyptic.
I’m not against the animated series or anything. I’d just like to see proof of progress before they start announcing a bunch of projects. We’ve been told an animated series has been in the works since 2016 without really any updates so you can see why I kind of roll my eyes when anything new is announced.
The newsfeed gets flooded with a thousand articles based on speculation and an excuse to try and rehash the 2016 controversy. I’m stoked if, and when anything comes out of all this though. I would like to see the animated movie come to the big screen like they did with clone wars. Because, yes I need more Ghostbuster popcorn buckets.

It won’t be on the big screen, unlike Amazon or Apple, Netflix’s productions are usually exclusive to the small screen… Either solely through their streaming service, or on some rare occasions, they get sold for television broadcast (like Voltron).
Well until they say otherwise, we’re getting both a theatrical animated movie and a streaming animated movie so we have the best of both worlds so to speak.
Well that’s an awesome thought. I was under the impression that the Netflix film was the animated movie that had already started production, but if this is actually a whole new project then hot damn.
Since Afterlife and Frozen Empire were every bit the legacy sequels I ever could have hoped to have seen, I am so ready for even more Ghostbusters stories even if they decide to step away from the OG characters. I am really looking forward to seeing how these new projects take shape. 
I’m torn. On one hand, it would be cool to see another story with the original ghostbusters together battling a serious threat, so they could make a film set immediately after the events of Ghostbusters 2 when the team is still together. But on the other hand, I wouldn’t mind seeing a fleshed-out story about how the Ghostbusters disbanded, what made Egon believe that something bad was on the horizon, why Ray didn’t believe him, how Egon discovered Summerville, etc. As a fan, I’m curious to know what happened exactly. But I’m just not sure from a storytelling standpoint that it would intrigue casual audience members to watch the Ghostbusters breaking up and going their separate ways.
I’d love to see the movie on the big screen at the same time the He-man film is released. Maybe we’ll get an 80’s themed summer. Especially if Robo Cop returns ever gets off the ground and that Knight Rider movie ever gets produced.
As noted before, as it’s a Netflix production, it’s almost certainly not going to be released in cinemas.
While we don’t know how long the Ghostbusters film for Netflix has been in production, it seems a reasonable bet at this point, given it’s only just been announced, that it probably won’t be ready in time for June 2026.

RoboCop Returns would probably be 2-3 years away from release if it stalled in early production, so again it won’t be ready by next summer. The same estimate can probably be said for the Knight Rider movie.
