I am sure you are all fully aware of this already, but I only just noticed that as they guys approach Goze,r Venkman and Winston’s cyclotron lights illuminate in the opposite way from all the other packs! ■■■■ up on the film or has any cannon material explained as to why?
Throughout the film there are lots of inconsistencies with the packs as they swap around from hero to stunt packs. Whilst that is the actual reason for why it happens I’m not sure if any one has come up with an explanation for it within the lore of the films.
I’m only a newbie here myself but I’m sure that if you trundle around through the countless threads on here you will find a more definitive answer.
No canon explanation, just a filming mistake.
Fun fact:
The way the ribbon cable is mounted to the cyclotron corresponds to the direction of the cyclotron lights.
Just a coincidence, but a fun detail.
You don’t say!?
Anyone never noticed the relation between those two details? Inadvertantly reversing the connection of the ribbon cables to the cyclotron reverses the cyclotron’s static magnetic field polarity, accelerating opposite sign particles! I.e. the cyclotron will accelerate a stream of electrons and NOT protons!
As Magnus Tullock pointed out, Ray and Egon (the brainy ones) had perfectly working packs but Venkman (who probably never got to read the pack’s user manual) and Winston (the rookie) had ELECTRON packs, not PROTON packs, that day on top of Spook Central.
Well, as we all know, a stream of electrons and protons is what we call a Solar Wind.
Therefore, what they actually did when they crossed the streams was inadvertantly create a rather nasty solar DRAFT that was strong enough to shut the door to Gozer’s universe closed, after having blown Her/Him/It back to the place of origin (or whatever convenient parallel dimension).
Here’s an explanation.
(and someday this could be cannon)
