So the matty wand has the bar graph show power level setting of the stream (the dial controls it) which is great, I love it! The movie only show a fraction of the graph moving, as if just adjusting as far as I can tell.
Here’s my problem, the matty wand only has 2 bar graph power settings. If you open it up, the ‘dial’ is just a slider switch. I’d consider the gbfans light kit, but I wonder if I can get the bar graph on it to work how I want
Any tips for mods?
The Matty likely uses a linear encoder to determine up or down with hardcoded animations. Unless you completely replace the electronics there’s not much else you can do since matty uses epoxy-blob monotask custom circuits.

Will I have better luck with a gbfans light kit? Or should I go the arduino route?
With the Matty wand? Upgrading the electronics of that would just be a pain in the ass… I suggest going with Throwing Chicken’s resin TCV3H Wand… It’s not too expensive, and it will operate totally to what you want to achieve…
I’ll echo what Pyhasanon says. Keep the Matty as is and get a TC kit.
I have both that matty and am finishing my TC kit. You are better off saving major aggravation and possibly destroying a good collector item by modding a matty wand.
Google people who have cracked into their Matty Wands and you see the internal components. Not worth your trouble.

(oh, I’ve already cracked a matty open. I’ve installed a switch and light on the end, and am modding more)
I can’t say for certain I’m awaiting my light kit to come, but maybe if there is enough space to work with and for the light board to fit in the matty.
How are you going to power the light kit? Are you going to use a battery or are you wiring it to the power source of the matty?

Check with Hijacker, I know he has sourced out the exact bargraph used in the GBFans kit… If you really want to modify you Matty Bargraph, finding just the bargraph would be your best bet, and it will save you money… Plus, he’ll be able to tell you if the mod is possible, since he knows how it’s supposed to be wired…
