Way Beyond Pissed off

Raises a question though, when was the last time anyone ever saw a hearse with flashing purple lights?

Might be because we do things differently here in England, but I never thought flashing lights were an important part of a hearse… they’re pretty unmistakable and usually obvious to why they’re slowly moving.

Most funeral homes don’t bother with the lights anymore, opting instead for a Police escort.

We actually have an older unit at the funeral home where I work, we just never used them.

Theres one funeral home here in town that uses an amber dome light on its hearse in every funeral, I went to a funeral above Atlanta a year or so ago and the hearse in that procession had two purple strobe lightbars running on it, one on the front of the roof and one in rear.

Theres one in Warner Robins that uses an Amber dome as well. As far as a funeral procession is concerned they could run any color light they wanted in reality, or atleast this is the way it was explained to me when I incquired.

Most funeral homes don’t bother with lights anymore, but some still use them. It really depends on the Funeral Home…

I think you can get a permit, but you have to have a good reason.

Also it soundsl ike they take their job tooooo seriously.

No kidding Kingpin! Ever figure that is why the Ecto 1A had the new “multi” colored roof rack lights?

No offense,…but it sounds like you have assholes for relatives.

fucking asshole relatives if u had anyballs and guts just drive ur car with the lights on and use em for what u paid for em ur a ghostbuster fan then do it i would

It sounds like its the law in Illinois.

If your “asshole” relatives don’t bust your ass for them.. a different cop will.

its not so much illinois but chicago. if he goes outside chicago i highly doubt he would get bothered about the lights.

It doesn’t matter. Its a state law. Chicago might have stricter local laws concerning flashing lights.

You are right though, you probably won’t get bothered in the middle of nowhere unless the cops are bored.. its still a state law though. You could move…

dude i would love to have the Ecto2 car from part 2,of ghostbusters and the delorean from BTTF , and the batman car from Tim Burton’s first movie that would be sweet

now that would be badass

…speaking of batman. michael keaton threw out the first pitch and sang the 7th inning stretch at the cubs game wednesday. it was awesome

You’re an idiot. Really. When you break the LAW you really can’t just go “sorry, I won’t do it again,” especially with something like Police Impersonation. The first cop you talk to might let you off, but seriously, you’d be asking a police officer to buy a story in which you spent several hundred dollars on lightbars, and months (if not weeks) of work into building your car without even ONCE going and checking the laws? Please. When you rob a bank or hit someone with your car, you cannot just go “oh sorry, I won’t do it again.” You. Broke. The. Law. You have an incredibly juvenile understanding of our justice system.

So, not only are you suggesting he just go out and do it, but you are suggesting that he do it in the name of being a ghostbusters fan. This means that you are, seriously, just begging to BROADEN the laws concerning car modification and lighting. Cops are gonna see all these nerds running around, pushing the limits of the police impersonation line, and when cops see them start to cross the line blatantly and break the law, someone is going to pass a new law the prevents unauthorized car modification.

Oh… you are an idiot.

Seriously… if the law says you can’t do something, you are NOT going to get a permit to do it. Think of it this way, you’re not going to get a permit to rob someone, so you’re not going to get a permit to break any other law. I’d recommend talking to police and, like I did, your local freaking legislators (congress, senate, mayor, judges, whathaveyou) about what IS allowed.

If that doesn’t work, either mount a huge lobbying campaign to loose restrictions on emergency lighting, or move.

Sucks… but that’s peoples fear giving power to anti-freedom weasels.

^^ Best post ever.

Nice Posting Boomer.

Violation of the Illinois Lighting Laws for Motor Vehicle, either moving or not, is a Class 4 Felony. Unless you are on your own private property, or have consent of the owners of the private property you are on, you can not operate them. Amber lights are used by slow moving vehicles, construction, stuff of the like. You can display Amber, but you can’t operate it on public property or on the roadway unless you have valid reason. Purple and Green are even more strict, and Red and Blue are to mounted to emergency vehicles only, or require a license signed by your police or fire chief, and are to only be used in responding to an emergency call. Any illigal operation of warning lights will land you a time in jail, forget the ticket.

ok, so bring the concept to your police chief and see if he will ok the use for display only… see this is what i like about living in a small town. mounting blues on an ecto replica wouldnt be an issue

Asking for a police chief to OK blue lights is like asking if he will give you a permit to rob someone.

You cannot get permits for illegal activities. Period. If you are at a car show, and the car is parked, you can put the lights on your car and run them. Again… you wouldn’t be able to go anywhere with them mounted on your car unless they were covered or had bags on them that said “out of service.” Or you can trailer your ecto.
