I’ve been toying around with this idea since I finished building my proton pack, and I made the decision tonight to get started. I know the idea of a “Trap Pack” isn’t really new or original, but I’m adding a twist that I think will make it stand out from other attempts, simply because it’s kinda funny.
The “in universe” explanation for this pack is pretty simple. Small franchises may not have the resources or space to build and maintain a full scale ECU. Instead, they lease a “Trap Pack” from corporate. The pack consists of a wand/gun which basically acts as the trap, and the pack itself features a removable, reusable cannister that can contain a specified amount of PKE. Once the cannister is full, you remove it from the pack and simply mail it to the nearest permanent containment facility, and they send you another empty cannister…think NetFlix for ghosts.
Here is a rough 3D representation of the pack I threw together in about half an hour. Please excuse the crudity of this model, I didn’t have time to build it to scale…
I haven’t started sketching the gun yet, but it will basically be a cross between a neutrona wand and a trap. I’ll be building the majority of this pack out of MDF and PVC, and fitting it with lights and (hopefully) two different sound boards, one for the cannister and one for gun. I’ll be gathering materials tomorrow, and hopefully working on a more detailed model to work from.
Way back when I had the same idea of a Mobile Containment Unit pack. I decided not to go with the idea simply because I didn’t feel like building it. My in-universe explanation was more along the lines of “A trap can only hold so much; the MCU detains excess entities out in the field until it can be discharged into the main containment grid.”
Probably, but I’m pretty used to people yelling things like “spaceman” at me anyway. If it gets too bad, I’ll slap a twenty inch “no-ghost” decal on the tank and make it play the theme song on a loop, at full volume.
I’ve abandoned the idea of building a 3D model of this thing, mostly because I suck at such things, and I’ve opted to just dive in to the construction process. Went to Home Depot and picked up some materials, hoping to get some time tonight to start putting a few things together.
I think the idea is pretty unique. I may have to try to do something in comparison to this. I already have an idea too. I’ll update if I can get anything done though. But maybe use one of the old vaccums that look like a gym bag. and u could prob do a light weight generator attatched to it so it would have real life sucking to it. And maybe modify it all thru a garbage can and primer it or paint it red with caution tape or whatev u prefer.
Designed a similar device years ago my self. I should do some work on this and bring it back to life.
My theory was that the trap was placed into the pack pack unit, then sucked from the trap to the Gecko Canister. Could hold about 12 traps or so. Geckos could be changed out in the field, so more traps could be unloaded.
That Trap Pack is AMAZING, i could see that going into an actual movie, looks old and used the like the proton packs, but also looks functional. HEAVY smoking trap is pretty awesome too. VERY well done!
