I find this very interesting. It’s amazing what kind of power people can have to an overall dynamic. I was on the fence about whether or not I’d pay to see this in theaters, but if it holds true that Ackroyd will be making a cameo, I’m all in. Hopefully, his role is to give them some advice on how he’d build the Ecto-1, creating a path to bring back the original. Seriously I can’t get over that clown car lol.
He’ll be a cabbie who tells Wiig that he’s not afraid of no ghosts. Ti which she reply: "it’s a double negation, that means you ARE afraid! ’
Really? That’s it. I get cameos are short and sweet but jeez. I’d almost rather nothing at all then. It’s cool that such a small dialogue is generating this much press. you typically don’t even hear about people making cameos until you’ve actually seen it.
Ghostbusters not Ghostbusters in a new Ghostbusters film is just meh. They shouldn’t be relegated to such insignificant roles.
Not even that. Is that the type of self-referetial nods were getting? If so…yikes. Sounds like it be something out of one the Original Ghostbusters commercials. “We’re not moving he is!..who are you going to call?”
Only its not supposed to be taken with cheese…its supposed to be “clever”
It’s no more clever than any Stan Lee cameo. The crowd will laugh and talk about it later. It’s harmless.
But Stan Lee is always a passing cameo, I’ve never heard him say something among the lines of “you wouldn’t like him when hes angry!” When cameoing in a Hulk film..
This is just cringy.

Anything in a movie is harmless.
But I’m talking about the level of quality.
I mean, you have this great comedic actor, and you give him some corny, beat on the head line? “Ya know..I aint a fraid of no ghost!” As if to remind the audience he was one of the originals. I’m expecting some trumpetfare to annunciate the “joke”
would it hurt to have given him something a bit more subtle?
I’ve seen better writing in birthday cards.
I read the story breakdown on Indie Revolver that features some of these “eh” reference jokes (“eh” being the noise I made when I read them).
For example, the media gives them the goofy “Ghostbusters” name.
Eh.
They are shown an old firehouse by a realtor but they pass on it.
Eh.
They look like cosplayers at a comic con in their Ghostbusters gear.
Eh.
Now the old slogan is brought up and mocked.
Eh.
I half expect the theme song to play on the radio and someone say. “Oh god not THAT annoying song again” and smash the radio. Because it’s… funny?
Little bit insulting as a fan of the original. Kind of like the scene in RoboCop where Michael Keaton calls the silver suit “too 80’s” or something before they settle on that generic, forgettable black suit.
Still no strong feelings either way from me but I’m on the “don’t care for it” side right now.
Glad to see Dan is involved. Hope to see Ernie as Patty’s uncle who gives them the hearse. Hope we get something from Murray and some reference to Ramis too.

It’s too bad this isn’t in continuity to the original movies. In our modern age of CGI young Arnolds and CGI dead Paul Walkers, and in a movie about ghosts, Ramis could have made a cameo as Egon’s ghost. It wouldn’t have to be anything large, and it wouldn’t even require dialogue.
If I were making GB3, Venkman would have moved away with Dana Barrett to live happily ever after to explain his absence, Winston would be the guy giving the rookies on the job training so Ernie could finally have a larger part to play, and Ray would play the part of Q from James Bond, in that he’s the old man at the firehouse building the new equipment and explaining how it works before the new team takes it out to field test it.
In a scene where Ray sends the team out to fight the final nemesis or something along that line, he’d watch the Ecto-1 leave and he’d go sit down at a table and pull out some playing cards or something, and then Egon’s ghost would materialize in the seat next to him, then cut away.
I believe they stated that the silver suit tested well with younger kids. Keaton wanted something ‘more badass’ and made it black.
That is commentary on today’s society, not a slap at the original.
The black suit was also an obvious representation of being controlled by the bad guy which makes his transition to the silver suit at the end much more of a metaphorical evolution.
Take it how you want though. I’m just sayin’.
I was hoping to see the business grow to be Ghostbusters Inc. with the original team acting as filthy rich businessmen working out of a skyscraper in Manhattan.
A small group of people open a GB franchise but are nickel and dimed to death by GB Inc. The equipment only half works, the training sucks, they can never get ahold of anyone at the main office, etc. It’s like a ghostbusting pyramid scheme. I imagine them getting a “so you want to be a Ghostbuster” franchise package with vhs training videos hosted by Winston.
The finale has them at the skyscraper with the old team, getting the old gear out of glass cases and they beat the bad guy as a team.
The originals either retire to a tropical island or stay on as CEO or something and this new team continues with their franchise.
That’s how I choose to end the series in my mind.
I’m thankful for the comic series so the OGB universe can continue.
You may be on the money but unfortunately I don’t remember the movie well enough to say for sure. I remember the line from the trailer mostly.
Just you guys wait. The big bad guy fight at the end of this ghostbusters movie is going to open a portal to the original Gozer fight that will link both the original ghostbusters universe with the new one. They will all join forces in Ghost Corp to fight a super duper bad guy.
Sarcasm aside I was legitimately hoping for a scene where the new team had some sort of interaction with the old one.
Maybe they saw each other through a portal at the end or there was some mention of Gozer being banished to the Fieg universe from a parallel one. Or something.
Not quite joining forces but maybe they could like… wave at each other.
I was hoping that somehow he’d make it into the movie as Ray and then makes a comment that he had an idea about catching ghost but his friend Peter turned it down. Then Ernie Hudson makes a cameo as Winston, sees the ghostbusters out and about, goes to Leslie Jones and whispers “hey how’s the paycheck doing what you do? I’d need it to be pretty steady for me to believe in ghosts”
I’m still surprised Dan isn’t the Dean of Columbia that kicks Wiig out. I mean it would be great to have him swivel around to the camera to go all Dean Yeager on her. And given Feig’s snarkiness he would’ve felt that would’ve been very Meta to have an original Ghostbuster be the one that fires one of the new ones.
I’d just like to see them acknowledge the debt they owe to the original in a way that’s respectful and interesting instead of derivative or insulting.
I think the new Star Trek movies are examples where they took it too far and stepped into fanservice territory. I wouldn’t want Ray Stantz, now living in an ice cave, called upon by Kristen Wiig to tell stories about their biggest nemesis, Vigo the Carpathian, now played by Chris Hemsworth (it was a ruse! He was never a REAL secretary!). Wouldn’t want them to team up or anything.
But maybe a scene where the FiegBusters cross the streams (we know they will) and time and space warps and the groups see each other for a few seconds. We see the new team as equals, torch would be passed, past would be acknowledged, fans are assured their beloved film exists parallel to this one and wasn’t negated by it, etc.
Just something to let us know Fieg is trying to add something, not replace it, and that he respects the source material instead of resenting it.
