What about a new GB cartoon?

What type of the following should be for a new Ghostbusters Animated ?

Character Design, Story , timeline , Art Style

I always thought they should do an animated series based on the film incarnation, complete with the khaki/gray uniforms, and make it take place in the early 90s after GB2 and maybe after the video game… and use art similar to the animatrix stuff they had… Granted i was never a fan of the Matrix, but some of the animation for alot of those shorts were excellent… I think the guy that did Aeon Flux did a few shorts as well.

Which Animatrix style? There were several.

Character Design:

I’m thinking, something semi-realistic… something that’s more traditional in style and depiction then the stuff we’ve seen from the Pokemon/Beyblade/Digimon wave or Transformers: Animated… something like Ben 10 or Gargoyles which have great animation… styles which’d lend themselves well to a new Ghostbusters cartoon.

Story:

A 50/50 mix of ongoing plotlines and one-off episodes. It allows for a good blend of short stories and longer, drawn out plots which can be developed around or independently of the one-off stories.

Timeline:

like dr_logan, probably set in the early 1990s, if not the new milennium. The 1990s offer enough that there’s a lot of familiar elements but doesn’t require the artists to draw the more extravagant things from the 80s, like leg warmers. I’d personally prefer it being set now and working with an accurate depiction of New York, not a ‘could be any big metropolis’ city that we’re told is New York, but lacks all that makes it New York.

Art Style:

See Character Design and Timeline.

i know there were several… pick your favorite lol…

I guess I’m just going to repeat what I posted on GBN for a similar topic…

My dream show:

They give JMS as much money as they have to to get him on board.

Maurice LaMarche and Frank Welker. If they can’t get Laura Summer back, Pat Musick. Kath Soucie is not allowed in this show unless they want her to play someone besides Janine.

Dear God, find someone other than Dave Coulier to be Venkman.

I do think it would be cool to get Ernie Hudson as Winston’s voice, though.

No f***ing reboots. It starts after EGB. EGB still happened. I’m sick to death of reboots and retcons, thanks to DC (“Let’s blow everything up in a Crisis and start it all over again!”) and Marvel (“One More Day”. Nuff Said). It doesn’t have to start at “real time” since the end of EGB (ie “Eleven years later”) but it’s at bare minimum set in Year Sixteen, the equivalent of 1998.

So yes, the EGB characters can/should appear, at least some.

Pay whatever it takes to get the rights to the likenesses from DiC, and make the Ghostbusters look more like they used to. A little older, certainly, but aged more naturally than EGB had to, as the EGB producers were apparently not allowed to use the RGB likenesses. I keep the different colored flight suits–four Ghostbusters in tan is as boring as watching four Ninja Turtles in red bandannas.

At least acknowledge Dana Barrett’s existance. She doesn’t have to appear often, but she should at least exist.

And do a story with the same development as this one. It’s more than overdue.

…

So, yeah, if you read my fan fics, you basically know what I’d want to see.

  1. Obviously get JMS back on board.

  2. Use Dapper Dan’s Ghostbusters style. His style is really unique, but also has that “Disney-esque” quality to it.

  1. Don’t market it towards 5 year olds. (Like that visual abomination, Transformers: Animated. Any one else’s childhood’s feel violated by that piece of trash?)

  2. I agree that Maurice LaMarche and Frank Welker should come back. Hell, it would be awesome if they could get Dan, Harold and Ernie to reprise their roles. I’m on the fence about Coulier. Sometimes he wasn’t bad.

  3. Introduce story arcs.

  4. Make it dark. Obviously, not adult dark, but dark like Batman: the Animated series as well as the early episodes of RGB. Remember how the guys almost died a few times in Killerwatt? Give the characters peril so you actually care what happens to them.

I’m so much with you on point 2. That guy’s work is absolutely fantastic! And it also looks much much better than the draft cover of that manga version of GB that has recently popped up…

CK

Gargoyles and Ben 10 have excellent animation styles, so it would be pretty cool to see the GB’s drawn that way. The ideas for more adult-themed storylines and ongoing storylines is cool. The RGB’s never had a recurring villan, or at least a consistant one. (I don’t think Stay-Puft and Sam Hain count.) I like Fritz’s idea to keep the show in the same continuity. Fritz’s storylines and character designs are awesome and keep it in line with the classic RGB, while keeping all the good stuff the XGB’s gave us. Hands down, Welker and LaMarche need to return as well as JMS. They should see if they could get Arsenio back, too. No one will ever be able to replace Lorenzo Music, but we can seriously get someone better than Coulier.

Dude Samhain totally counts as a reaccuring villian in RGB. :stuck_out_tongue:

2 episodes in RGB and a XGB toy don’t make him recurring. lol

That’s 3 more than most of their foes, and then he had a couple appearances in the NOW comics.

So in canon, he was a pretty big deal enough to count.

huh. i wasn’t even counting the comics. thanks for that. guess i was mistaken.

I get where you’re coming from though as far as having a recurring villain.

That’s the majesty of the comics. Fritz is more knowledgeable in this respect, but the guys fought wizards, ninjas, mad scientists, and the like in those pages, and had more storylines than the show, guaranteeing it’s ability to be easily malleable for a new animated show.

Two Real Ghostbusters Episode with Multiple Cameos.

One Appearance in the Real Ghostbusters Comics.

One Ghostbusters International RPG Module “Pumpkin Patch Panic.”

Appearance in the Extream Ghostbusters Opening.

Extream Ghostbusters Action Figure.

Samhain is by far a menacing and recurring villian.

The Grundel could count as a reoccurring character and certainly the Bogeyman (since he showed up more then once, was referenced and apparently had a background with Egon.)

Actually it seems a few of the Ghosts showed up more than once. The shape shifter came back in Drool the Dog Faced Goblin too, the Sleaze was in two RGB eps and a Slimer ep.

…I’m betting there are more.

Samhain appeared twice in the comics:

Vol.1 No.17 and the 1993 Annual. The second story wasn’t very good, though, he just sort of popped up with no explaination as to how he got out of the ECU or anything like that.

The Boogeyman also appeared in the Now Comics, in Vol.1 No.26

As for recurring menaces in the show, the one that I can think of that hasn’t been mentioned was the Ghostmaster, who appeared in “Short Stuff” and “Revenge Of The Ghostmaster”

“Came back”?

Yes came back

Though they never caught him he did get away and thus ended that story.

Unless I’m confusing two different stories and two shape shifters, which is very possible there are a few eps I have not seen in a number of years.

What episode do you think the shape shifter was in before Drool, the Dog Faced Goblin?

As far as I’m aware he didn’t appear in any episodes before that one.

not to mess up the current debate on this topic, but i myself would like to see either a continuation of the rgb/egb series as stated by everyone especially fritz (i read a few of your fan fics and thought they worked very well)

but i wouldn’t also mind seeing a cartoon version of the Legion comics by 88mph studios

in the end as long as they make another cartoon and not aim it towards kids, the whole idea like making as dark as batman the animated series (just dark enough for kids and still interesting for the older crowds) would be all i really want cause making it very childish will kill it for me
