Stacking washers can work, but I’ve never tried it and I’m not sure about the sizes. Download Stefan’s measurements of the ion knob and get washers that fit his drawings. You could also wrap and glue wire around a piece of PVC or dowel rod, then cap it off with a washer and screw. Norm has more detailed instructions of this method in his plans, as well as another couple of alternatives, IIRC. I think there was a guy on Proptopia a while back who made one by stacking and gluing cymbals off a tambourine, but that seems a hassle unless you’ve got an old tambourine lying around. There was also someone on the forums here who posted a homemade ion knob he made by using Norm’s method, only he substituted solder for wire. It looked like the real thing! Hope this helps…

i used Neoprene and acrylic washers (metal washers get too heavy), and i used stephan’s plans … worked fine for me! these materials do take a REALLY long time to dry after being painted, though.

I built it using wood and a circular coping saw. I cut 7 pieces of Ø30mm and others seven of Ø34mm.

i just used and 1 1/4 dowell rod and wrapped it with solder…capping it off with the appropriate sized washer and screw..came out pretty nice for not wanting to spend too much.

could you post a picture of it?

This is my ion knob for now. I might have to go back to the drawing board with this one tho because of my plans for the cyclon.

Its metal washers and its not heavy but its not light

You’d probably be better off using some kind of wire as opposed to solder. Solder being lead based and all. Safety first, most GB’s are brain damaged enough as it is. :stuck_out_tongue:

here’s what the washers i mentioned ended up looking like in the end.

The larger is 1.5" and the smaller is 1.25" there are 12 large neoprene wahers, 11 smaller acrylic washers, and one steel washer of the same size (i had to use one metal one due to the size of the hole the screw would go through). using these kept weight a little bit lighter. I glued them all onto the bumper. However i think i would do this a bit different now…I would use a longer screw and drill and screw ALL THE WAY through the cyclo. it would make it sturdier in crowds, but for now…the krazy glue is holding. good luck!

i REALLY like how this turned out. ill be heading to home depot this weekend to pick up the needed washers. thank you friend.

No problem…glad to be of help!! oh yeah i forgot to mention as i stacked the washers, I glued as well (but you probably would have figured this out anyway  )
