Ion knob.......

I did some searching and didn’t see this topic. What gives the best results for the Ion knob on the cyclotron bumper?Do you guys use stacked washers or a nipple as some of the plans suggest?Does someone sell a resin or machined version?

Namebrand sells the best machined version out there, PM him to see if he has any left over from his last run. Otherwise you need to wait for another run or try the washer or nipple route.

yeah, definitely talk to Namebrand. otherwise i would either get a resin one from propfan or go with the nipple. i was going to do the nipple but then bought one from propfan instead and one from Namebrand when he offered them last time.

Thanks for the info.

The stacked washers work fine for the Ion Knob, as long as you can accept the shorter height. The washers come out to be about 1/4" shorter than the actual part, but, still look pretty awesome, especially if you can’t get a machined knob.

That said, with the machined knobs, go with Namebrand, either if someone has one of his for sale, or he decides to do another run. You won’t be disappointed.

The problem with getting resin copies are, a, I don’t think anyone does them anymore (Propfan has retired his mould, last I heard), and, b, no matter what paint you use, it won’t look anywhere near as good as a real metal part. That, and even when Propfan made them, his were too large (like, way too large), and not accurate. Which would, of course, be why he retired the mould.

The washers will be your cheapest alternative, and, next to Namebrand’s, will achieve the best result. So, if the price of a machined one is too high for you, you can’t go wrong stacking washers.

If you go to a music store you can usually find cheapo tambourines like this one…

Pull off the metal symbols, stack them together (you’ll need 20 of them) and run a screw through the middle. Very lightweight compared to metal washers.

That’s what I did…

Sweet. That looks really good,I’ll definitely look into that.

Very inventive use of percussion

wow robo, that is a great idea. looks sweet too

You forgot the last step…once you take off the cymbals, give the tambourine to your niece or nephew, who lives across town. His/her parents will THANK you!

LOL!!.. no kidding!
