I’m lucky my wife and I have been together for 15 years (married 10), She has always known I was a geek. She’s known since we dated that someday I would build one. When I told her last year that I was finally gonna build one she said go for it. She didn’t want one and really had no interest. Then I started telling her about the fund raising and the other stuff people do. Well now it’s gotten to the point that she wants a pack and uniform too. She’s even started to quote the films.
I’ve known my wife for over 25 years and we’ve been married for almost 14 years. In that time I’ve learned that women want financial security and relational security. If you are dropping cash on your hobby and bills are suffering and you have no savings then you are going to have issues. If you are attending events every weekend and have no time for her (and later the kids) you are going to have issues. My wife knows what I spend on this hobby and has no problem with it because I’ve attended to these other areas of life and I don’t try to hide anything from her. True, she thinks I’m a geek but then again she’s known that since day one.
I’ve told her I built the stuff. She has no idea how expensive the gear is. Told her I did it little by little at my parents house. Hell, I bought everything with the exception of the CU in the basement that’s getting built right now…
I tell her: “I don’t tell you what to spend your money on, you don’t tell me what to spend my money on. So long as the bills are paid what does it matter!”
Exactly. I took sarcasm as a second language in highschool too! But the people that visit this site that sell stuff got a ton of business from me, and I got my gear. What she don’t know won’t hurt her. I don’t gamble the mortgage money, and I don’t screw other women… I just wanted a proton pack.
That is just a weird justification. Women don’t actually look at the severity of the lie, but the fact that you did lie. That’s why I said I just told the wife straight up. She’s not as into the whole thing, (Hell, she doesn’t know which movie is which. “Is the one with the marshmallow guy the one with the baby?” No. No it isn’t) but she likes the fact that I have a hobby, as nerdy as it is and is at least supportive.
yeah but she ain’t supportive of nothing. She’s supportive of me givin her money to go get her nails done and then I’m supportive of her putting those big melons in my face after my guts are full of the dinner she just cooked. No room for building ghost traps in that equation.
