Anbody’s elses wife/girlfriend absolutely hate and despise this little hobby of ours. I get shit everyday!
My fiance (of about three weeks now I might add) used to give me ■■■■ all the time. I don’t know if she finally came to terms with the fact that I’m not gonna budge on my “props” stance, or if it was the huge splash I made this past year on Halloween. She dresses up her house very ellaborately (sp?) for Halloween. I had my Ecto-Cobra parked in front of the house this year and I helped her pass out candy. People would come back two and three times to see/get a picture of me and the car. She ate that up. We’ve been dating for six years, and that was the first Halloween I’d ever spent at her house. I even convinced her to make her own Rainbow Brite costume back in October. It was like attack of the 80’s. Ever since then, she’s been cool with it.
My wife hates it, even last halloween when i first really started getting into this she through a absolute fit. She would bitch and moan cause i was in the shop building a pack instead of spending every waking moment at her side. Now she just says i’m immature, i need to grow up, or man up, or both..lol, and this and that. She really goes out of her way to try to make me feel stupid, but it does’nt work, i like what i like, she can deal with it…lol
My girlfriend and I have been dating for about a year and a half now, She had never seen the GB movies before she met me. I forced her to watch them. She seemed to like em but not enought to see them over and over again like me. She likes to give me a hard time about my obsession but she knows she can’t change who I am and what I like.
My girlfriend wears a flightsuit ![]()
well lucky you ron
lol…my wife threatened to burn my flightsuit
Fortunately my girlfriend liked both movies before me and likes Caddyshack, Coneheads, Stripes, Animal House, 1941 etc and all that stuff and loves Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, John Belushi etc. Though I had to introduce her to Blues Brothers because she had only seen BB2000 :sigh: now she knows the proper movie.
She definetly tolerates my obsession and is understanding. She takes pictures of me in uniform when I ask her. GB is one thing she knows to look for stuff for me on birthdays etc
Not long after we were dating she got me the GB soundtrack(what made her think I didn’t have it? I don’t think she knew just how obsessed early on) she also got me the black logo poster that says “Who ya gonna call?” I have the 3 guys looking at the sky poster.
She’s encouraging when I work on stuff saying everybody has something they like and everybody needs a hobby. Sometimes I’m on here looking at other people in uniform and I ask her “do I look better than this guy?” so thats fun.
She still shakes her head at me some days and says I’m like a little boy though she never is hateful or upset about it. Then again I don’t really spend a lot on prop stuff haha I rarely spend much money on myself as it is.
I have joked about a Ghostbusters wedding sometimes or when we’re going somewhere I always jokingly say I’ll go in uniform and she’s like “nooooo”
My girl likes ghostbusters well enough, but not to the same degree that I do. She seems to think that I make a ghostbusters reference at some point in every day that I see her, and she scoffs at and mocks me to no end for that (though I’d disagree it’s everyday…and sometimes it’s only because I pointed out someone wearing a GB shirt). She’s supposed to make me a flight suit at some point in time (she’s a theatre costume intern), but I think she’s held off by not liking my obsession being greater then her own obsessions with Phantom of the Opera and NIghtmare Before Christmas. It is great that she’s in the kind of job she is…it enables all those wonderful costuming urges I get every now and then (that and I’ve managed to meet one semi-celebrity so far). Unfortunately, I don’t think I’d be able to get her to watch ghostbusters again until after another month or so ![]()
My wife is really cool with it. She loves both of the movies. She draws the line with the cartoon, but hey 2 outta 3 ain’t bad.
Since I do all my building in my computer room, I usually build when she’s surfing or playing games, so we’re in the same room and can converse and such. She was going to go as Janine this past halloween but couldn’t find a decent wig or costume. But I guess the coolest part is that when we have kids she wants to get the baby Stay Puft costume for it ![]()
I did however tell my girlfreind when we get married my groom’s cake must be in the shape of the ghostbuster logo. she was cool with that.
My wife only discovered I was really a “geek” in 2006 when I sat down to build my back pack. I had recently had a car accident and needed to do rehab on my wrist so, instead of the obvious, I decided to put together a pack.
She get’s a little upset that I enjoy going to conventions (who doesn’t). Finally had an argument about the cons and GB.. came to an understanding that it is only a few times a year so she’s all good with it now.
I’m lucky. My fiance likes both movies. She doesn’t like them as much as me (I’m completely obsessed), but she likes them just the same and doesn’t mind my obsession. Actually, she often gets me Ghostbusters related stuff for Christmas, or my birthday, or our anniversary. For our last anniversary just recently, she got me these custom-made jeans that somebody painted with Slimer, Stay Puft, and the Ghostbusters symbol. They look REALLY awesome and are one of a kind because somebody custom made them. She has also happily offered to wear that female Ghostbusters Halloween costume that they made if I get it. I’ve been looking on eBay, but just have never found it for cheap enough (I can’t see paying much more than $50.00, if that). I’m pretty lucky in that respect. ![]()
Jokes on her if its Nomex ![]()
damn skippy..lol!
my gf loves it she even funds my prop building hehe as long as i make her something too
I guess I’m in the middle (between “wearing a flightsuit” and “pays for the props” to “B@tches and moans constantly”). It depends on her mood, I guess. Sometimes she just shakes her head, sometimes that she’s sick of hearing about the “F#$cking pack”. But, I have my own den, I’ve build a few props, and I just got a new glue gun and fine-tipped soldiering iron (and a buttload of electronic parts from my brother-in-law). So, not too bad. She’s driving me to the Pittsburgh Comicon this Sunday (unless work calls her in for Nightshift on Saturday, which happens more than I’d like, and my son has been sick the past few days : ( ), so she indirectly supports me. Still haven’t told her about the Membership/ID badge yet…Maybe after the Con…
I’m glad my girlfriend is as big a dork as me.
Shauna is the girl of my dreams.

I wish I could get my fiance to gear up like that. You’re so freaking blessed…
