And she makes those cakes, right?
With those eyes and that eyebrow ■■■■ you look like Bruce Campbell, but then your hair makes you look like Ray Stantz.
I usually get a little guff, when an AJ envelope, or ebay package comes and she asks if there is 300 dollars worth of 1980s parts in there. Usually referring to the resistors, surplus parts and other things of that nature. She doesnt pick on me. She thinks its cute. Bonus. But if she would happen to run her mouth about the hobby and “dork stuff”, I like to open the closet and point at all the purses and shoes that are worn less often then my flightsuit. Shit gets real quiet, then we sex. ![]()
You suave ■■■■■■■…
My wife doesn’t buy herself anything. So, my son will get toys here and there, and I look at an action figure, and put it back. (I did get the 25th anniv G.I. Joe Snake Eyes 3 1/4") My GB hobby is the only exception to the rule. She’s a good mom, works nightshift cleaning up people’s ■■■■ in a nursing home, and takes care of my son when he’s not in pre-school. And, she’s the primary driver, so it’s like she has two kids (one with a decent paying job : ) So, I try to keep costs waaaay down. It’s hard to “justify” spending money on a pack that doesn’t actually work, or earn income. We live paycheck to paycheck, and it looks like a depression isn’t too far off (might be burning the Burgh Pack to saty warm-LOL!) But, I cut the neighbor’s grass, do chores and maintain the house, and spend time with my son so she can get a few hours of zzzz’s when I get home from work. I don’t know how she does it. She averages about 3 hrs of sleep a day. My boss’ husband spends thousands on junker cars, but that comparison argument doesn’t work since you could drive/sell those cars, but a prop is, well, a . She’s cool with it most of the time, she just gets mad when money is tight, or her “visitor” is in town. Too bad you can’t trap that demon! : p
My wife is very supportive (knock on wood)! She’s been supportive from the beginning too. Through buying the 59 MM, prop building, collecting “random” roof rack parts, etc. I’ve been very blessed, especially because none of this is exactly cheap.
cdod22, maybe she should try to find a hobby of her own? My wife really enjoys reading. And you should just sit her down and explain to her that this is something that makes you happy. It’s something that you enjoy. And tell her that you don’t appreciate it when she makes comments like that. It would be best to just be up front and honest with her.
You may have to come to a compromise with her. Maybe you only spend certain days in the shop and the rest with her. Take the initiative to work out a compromise with her, and maybe it will blindside her enough so that she would be more willing to work with you and not be so upset about your “stupid hobby”.
Good luck man. We’ll be rooting for you!!
Yeah, try to spend time with her. My problem is, when she’s home, she either sleeping or we’re running around doing errands. And, with my son, we don’t get a lot of “us” time. The bright spot is, when she’s sleeping, and if my son wants to come down to the den and play flash games on the Mac, then I can work on the props. I would rather spend time with her, but, you do what you can. : )
I’m single these days, but whenever I had a girlfriend the Ghosthead/fanboy side of me was never an issue…so long as the boyfriend side was a smooth motherf----.
My wife is supportive. She even purchased a trap kit last halloween so we could go to a party in Myrtle Beach. So, I made her a quick flightsuit and we had a blast. We even dressed our daughter up as a ghost (she was just a year and a half old). She has tolerated my computer games, comic book collecting, video games etc so I think I will keep her around for a while longer lol.
As of right now, I have to put prop building on semi-hold status beacuse we are building a house and alot of funds are going to that right now.
My girlfriend tolerates it. She’s thinks its ok. She’d rather I spent my money on her though. haha.
Although she is going to gear up for the upcoming Collectormania here in the UK. So that should be fun. But i did have to stop her buying the mass produced costume!
Boomer, the colour of your suit look really good! What did you use?
Lawrence
I’m lucky, my wife is into costuming and we’re both members of the 501st (UK Garrison). At the moment she has a Boushh and Attris costumes and has a 90% completed Batgirl.
Here’s her Boushh

She made the whole thing herself (apart from the helmet)
You know you need to get her in a flightsuit, right?
My wife goes along with me to the hardware store; she is a little passive-aggressive sometimes. I’ve put my pack on hold for a bit while I gather my Indiana Jones stuff. But once finances are evened out she won’t mind as much. My girlfriend could care less.*
*I can’t believe no one’s made that joke yet!
my girlfriend* just basically lets me do what i like
she’s not into the whole costume/ghostbusters thing but she thinks it’s cool that i am
mind you my likfe is startin to turn out like Venkman’s…
i’m going into science and parapsychology and she wants to do music on the west end…
looks like i’m moving to london… lol
- yes i’m a lesbian. oh, get over yourselves!
■■■
Sounds groovy
I don’t have a girlfriend or wife( and i dont’ want one) but I’m chipping in my two cents..
I’m got to have a guy that respects my interest. If he’s got any problems with it he can hit the road. He doesn’t have to have the same interest he just needs to support mine like I support theirs.
I’m single at the moment and if a girl had any issue with my hobby it’s pretty much an issue with who I am and there is the foundations to which things go ■■■■ up in my opinion!
Last year when I first had the urge to put together an accurate Ghostbuster costume and equipment my then gf was in America so she didn’t really have to put up with much of my time and attention spent on this. (I guess her being away left me with nothing better to do leading me to this hobby) We’ve since broken up and we’re still as close as friends as can be (Our group is similar to the Friends group) and everone of them knows how much time and effort I will spend this year on actually putting my equipment together. I doubht it would become a problem as when the next girl comes along she’ll probably not find out about it too some point down the line. I don’t plan on dropping the “I have a replica Ghostbusters costume/equipment at home, wanna see it” line at any point lol.
my wife is letting me convert part of our basement for GB stuff, so, I guess I’m pretty lucky…
Well, I’m shocked to see my thread is still going, its been awhile since i’ve been on, but my wife that i originally spoke of has left me and filed for divorce. So i guess that solves the problem of getting ■■■■ for all my gb stuff..lol, But on the flip side, i have had to sell all my GB stuff to be able to hire a lawyer.
sorry to hear about the divorce. : ( My wife and I are in debt, so she would only get half of the debt. Good luck with the lawyer thing…
